So it seems that RIM has filed for another patent, and no it is not a new Blackberry per say. It appear that this new ‘Blackberry Drive’ is going to be some sort of keychain accessory. The best guesses right now are that this new product will be some kind of ‘key fob’ , as the patent description is “Key-fobs; non-electric cables and wires of common metal; small items of metal hardware; goods of common metal not found included in other classes.“
Now there is no picture (of course) and no real ideas of what exactly this new product is going to be. However if you remember that RIM recently acquired QNX Software Systems who just happen to specialize in middleware, development tools, and other products for embedded platforms mainly for the automotive market, this makes perfect sense.
As always we will keep our ears to the ground and keep you informed about further developments on the ‘Blackberry Drive’, and please stop by the Nerdberry.net Forums and let us know what you think about this departure for RIM.
