Canadian Release Dates For The Torch Still Seem To Be Up In The Air!

With tomorrow being the original Torch 9800 release date for all the major Canadian carriers I figured I would try to do some investigation for all you Canadian Blackberry users.

I decided to stop in at a Best Buy here in town, as I had received some information that they had finally received their “dummy” units. When I got there they were just opening the package, and to my delight a Telus rep was there so I got a chance to talk with him. As far as he knew Telus, as well as the rest of the carriers, would be launching within the upcoming week, but that there was still no solid date. He did however say that he had been told that Telus would not be “beat to the punch” by any other carrier, so leads me to believe that the carriers are all scrambling to get this highly anticipated Blackberry released.

Earlier today we reported that Rogers would be selling the units online starting tomorrow and in stores starting on the 27th. Hopefully this is true, but since they waited till the last second to make customers aware of this, its all up in the air at the moment.

Now I’m not sure how “well connected” this rep is as he starting asking me all kinds of questions about my AT&T Torch after I took a call on it. And he did admit that they had not received very much hands on time with the Torch…. So of course I filled him on all my pros and cons.

While I’m sure this “wishy washy” attitude the carriers are taking towards the release isn’t making very many Canadians happy, the good thing to take out of this is that they are trying to release the device with a solid OS, unlike AT&T and the 6.0.0.141 which seemed to be rushed for release.

The latest launch dates are as follows;

Rogers – September 30th

Bell – October 1st

Virgin – October 1st

Telus – Unknown (my guess is September 30th)

I would really love to hear what our Canadian readers are feeling about this whole debacle! So please drop a comment or head over to the Nerdberry Forums and let me know!
