After the BlackBerry Maps Update
RIM has announced that they have finally updated there BlackBerry Maps applacation with a new optimized look. The announcement was posted on their BlackBerry Developer’s Blog. If you do not have BlackBerry Maps installed you can download it here blackberry.com/maps.
So what new:
- 34 new countries, including Australia, Brazil, Argentina, Uruguay, New Zealand, The Philippines and Taiwan.
- New optimized visual appearance of maps
- Stronger rendering engine
- New color scheme
- New POI databases for hospitals, universities/colleges, police stations, train/subway stations, shopping centers, parking, parks, and airports added wherever available
- Still blocked by AT&T on their BlackBerrys
Shadid over at the Developer Blog was awesome enough to write some detailed steps on how to set up the new features. You will need to do the following:
Updating BlackBerry Maps with BlackBerry® Device Software 4.7 or Lower
- From the home screen, go to Maps.
- Press the [Menu] key and select Options.
- Press the [Menu] key and select Clear Cache.
- Select Delete when prompted to delete cached entries.
Updating BlackBerry Maps with BlackBerry Device Software 5.0 before Bundle 1057
Update your BlackBerry Device Software to the latest version, available here. If you do not wish to update your software, you can follow the instructions below (for the BlackBerry Device Software 5.0 after Bundle 1057) to receive the additional map coverage and new map design. However, the new POI icons will not be available.
Updating BlackBerry Maps with BlackBerry Device Software 5.0 after Bundle 1057
- From the home screen, go to Maps.
- Press the [Menu] key and select Options.
- Press the [Menu] key and select Clear Cache.
- Select Delete when prompted to delete cached entries.
Updating BlackBerry Maps with BlackBerry Device Software 6.0
- From the home screen, go to Maps.
- Press the [Menu] key and select Options.
- Press Global Map Options.
- Press the [Menu] key and select Clear Cache.
