According to reports by Bloomberg, the highly anticipated QNX powered smartphones that RIM has been working on, will also run Android apps. Bloomberg reported this today, and states that RIM will be adding the ability in an attempt to attract users back that have switched to Android or iOS for the extensive app catalogs that both platforms have. This is very much a kin to the Android App Player that has leaked for the BlackBerry PlayBook, to which an official version is expected in the next major update to the tablet. The “BlackBerry Colt“, as it has been named, will be the first QNX smartphone from RIM and is expected to launch sometime in Q4 of this year or Q1 of 2012. In a time where RIM has taken a lot of heat for their application numbers this only makes sense as the ability to use and download Android applications from the Android Market has been proven on the PlayBook, and will surely entice some former BlackBerry users to return to their roots.
