Wall Street Journal: Microsoft And Nokia Had An Interest In Purchasing RIM

The Wall Street Journal is reporting that both Microsoft and Nokia had an interest in possibly acquiring RIM, according to insiders.

So far the Nokia and Microsoft talks are just rumors. When asked about the potential purchase:

“Spokespeople for Microsoft and Nokia declined to comment. A RIM spokeswoman said the company doesn’t comment on “rumors and speculation.” RIM and Microsoft already have a partnership, announced earlier this year, providing a “cloud service” initiative that allows corporate customers to move back-office infrastructure to off-site data centers. Microsoft also has a partnership with Nokia that enables Nokia to install Microsoft’s mobile phone software on its devices.”

We’ve already heard that there was talk of Amazon buying RIM, but that fizzled out.
