AT&T Now Prompting for Activation on OS 7.1 Mobile Hotspot

Here is a tidbit of crappy news… PocketBerry, has been using the Mobile Hotspot feature on their BlackBerry Bold 9900 running on AT&T. Apparently, AT&T has caught on to the mobile hotspot feature and blaock internet access… When activated you y see a message that reads “To use this feature, contact your wireless service provider and subscribe to a Mobile Hotspot data plan.”

The block could mean a number of things, but one thing really stands out, AT&T could be prepping to release OS 7.1 officially for the 9900! I have been using it on my Bold 990 running on T-Mobile and everything is working great! If you are on Sprint or Verizon please stop by the comments and let us know if you are having any issues with them blocking the mobile hotspot feature.

When OS 7.1 is released, AT&T will probably block the “Smart Tags” app icon, the Near Field Communication (NFC) option which they are currently blocking and block the mobile hotspot option under “manage connections”. I’m supprised they haven’t blocked “blackberry maps” app icon as they did in the past on former bolds.

If AT&T unblocks the NFC, I can’t wait for people to start complaining of even lower battery life.
