Review: myCharge Portable Power Bank 3000

My BlackBerry Bold 9900 goes wherever I go, and I go everywhere. I’m constantly on my phone throughout the day, whether that be in class, the library, or running errands, plus posting articles onto NerdBerry while simultaneously being on the move. If you haven’t had the pleasure of using a Bold 9900, you might be unaware, but the battery life isn’t exactly spectacular, especially when it comes to the amount of time I use mine on a daily basis. Naturally that has resulted in my carrying around numerous chargers such as USB cords, outlet chargers and even car chargers. Needless to say, that gets extremely annoying and is always a tangled mess. Half of the time I’m not even anywhere near a place that I can actually charge my phone, so having the plethora of chargers is basically a tease.

Because of my need to constantly be on my phone and have it actually usable, I’ve gone on what I was starting to believe was an endless search for the perfect external battery. I’ve looked high and low for one that could meet all my needs at a reasonable price that I could afford as a college student, then I found it: the myCharge Portable Power Bank 3000!

The myCharge 3000 is a rechargeable 3000mAh battery pack that will on average charge two smartphone batteries, whether that be two at the same time or charging one phone twice. Even better, it’s available here for only $79.99.

Features and Specifications:

  • 3000mAh rechargeable battery pack with USB to Micro-USB charging cable
  • Apple, Micro USB and Mini USB connectors to charge numerous devices
  • Experience 12 hours of talk time (on 3G), 17 hours of WiFi, 69 hours of listening to music, and 17 hours of video
  • Battery power indicated by LED light
  • Battery: 3000mAh Lithium Polymer
  • Input: 5VDC, 500mA-1A
  • Output: 5VDC/1A

Conclusion:

I was pleasantly surprised with how quickly the myCharge 3000 charged up my battery, especially because it did not overly heat up my phone like most others I’ve tried out seem to do. Within a matter of about 45 minutes, my battery had gone from less than 10% battery to a little under 70%. That charged my phone faster than even my normal BlackBerry charger does. This was something I really enjoyed, especially when I’m in a crunch and need battery juice quick! Another cool thing that really stood out to me was that there are three different charger ends, making it possible to charge up numerous gadgets at once or to even share with a friend.

There are a few disadvantages to the myCharge 3000. While it’s very light in weight, the dimensions of the actual battery charger are rather large, making packing and carrying it around a little bulky. For a constant traveler, adding the myCharge to your carry-on would be barely noticeable, but it might not always be that easy for everyone. The biggest problem I had with the myCharge 3000 is that it takes so long to charge up. After nearly four hours, the myCharge 3000 still wasn’t full to capacity, but definitely enough to charge my phone to hold me over for a long while. The solution I found for this was to just make sure I charged it over night. Make sure you always switch it to the “off” button also.

Overall, I’d highly recommend the myCharge 3000 to anyone. From everything that I gathered while using this product, the multiple advantages greatly outshine the very few disadvantages.

I used Art’s several time when we were in Orlando, FL for #BB10Jam and #BBWorld.
I have definitely added one of these to my list of must haves.
