Can’t Update your BlackBerry 10 Dev Alpha? Here is the Workaround for Windows

A new OS update went out yesterday for the BlackBerry 10 Dev Alpha devices, however there were a bunch of users that were not able to complete said update. Our very own Dev Alpha device would simply not update through Desktop Manager, and as you can imagine it was very frustrating.

Thanks to @Bla1ze, @JCarty, @NikoG21, and @brcewane there is now a little workaround to get the update to apply on a Windows machine.

  • Close Desktop Manger
  • Navigate to the following key in the registry: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Research In Motion\AppLoader (32-bit) or HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\Research In Motion\AppLoader (64-bit)
  • Delete the SLSURL entry
  • Delete the WebSLURL entry.
  • Start up Desktop Manager

After successfully accomplishing this, the update should work for your Dev Alpha. Happy developing! P.S. You may need to do the restore method.

It is awesome to see the developer community work together like this to figure out a solution for everyone that was having issues. Now go and install that update!
