Mr. Heins is on tour right now before BB Jam occurs to promote the new BlackBerry 10 OS. His last stop was in South Africa, while there he was interviewed by Gadget.co.za and the topic of BlackBerry 10 was discussed. Hit the break for the info. The biggest information that came from this interview was that Blackberry 10 will be released in 3 different parts. South Africa and Nigera are both in the first wave of release because of the continued support that they have given RIM over the years.
Thorsten also explained the current market situation in North America:
The market in the USA was driven by a tectonic shift to full touch screens and to LTE (4G connectivity) in a very short time frame in the enterprise space. All the money from the carriers is going to 4G. That is why we have lost and are still losing market share… There are two routes to recapturing that market. Firstly, we are working on our installed user base. So far the upgrade ratio has increased from 8% to 22% in the last two quarters… The second thing is to get Blackberry 10 into the market and make sure it fulfills all users’ requirements, such as the full LTE experience.
This is definitely a good explanation for the sudden drop in RIM’s market share but will not help them regain the lost customers unless BB10 really wows when it is released.
