A look at the Flip Shell Case for the BlackBerry Z10

Now that some of you out there have your hands on the new BlackBerry Z10, I am sure that you are wondering what cases to get.  There are always a wide selection of cases for BlackBerry, from either third-party case makers and even from BlackBerry themselves.  One of the BlackBerry OEM cases for the Z10 is the Flip Shell case that provides you with a solid amount of protection a well as some multi-media features as well.

The Flip Shell case works well most of the time.  I did find that the flip cover got caught sometimes when I was trying to take it out or put it into my pocket.  The good thing is that I knew that the screen was turned off while it was in my pocket, thanks to the magnetic cover.  I did find that the front of the Flip Shell wears a lot easier than other materials out there.  I think is in due in part to the microfiber material that was used.  I noticed that it seemed to get dirty and worn around the edges pretty quickly.

The best part about the Flip Shell is that it acts like a stand, much like the Smart Cases that Apple makes for their iPads.  I found this feature to be very useful when I was sitting at a desk for extended periods of time and wanted my Z10 to be easily accessible without having to pick it up every time.  With apps like BBM and email working in landscape, the stand functionality was great to use.

The stand functionality of the Flip Shell is obviously great for watching movies n the Z10.  Now I do not usually watch feature-length movies on my smartphone, that is what I have a big screen TV for.  However there are certain times that watching a YouTube clip or a short movie or TV show is ideal on your smartphone, and with the Flip Shell case I was able to do just that with greater ease.  Not having to hold the phone while watching a video encouraged me even more to use my Z10 for videos.  The addition of movies and TV shows to BlackBerry World also mean that having a case that can act as a stand is that much more important.

The Flip Shell case definitely lived up to my expectations.  While it is not the perfect case for me, I can see that a lot of people are going to want to get their hands on this case.  The price for the Flip Shell case for the Z10 is going to range from $35-40 depending on where you pick it up.  A lot of stores are just starting to get stock, but there are lots of online stores that are selling BlackBerry Z10 accessories, and most of the time they are cheaper than the Big Box stores.
