Alec Saunders knows BlackBerry 10 users aren’t crazy about Android ports

There is no ignoring the fact that there are a lot of Android ports in BlackBerry World for BlackBerry 10 devices. Most of the big name apps that people want, have come to BlackBerry 10 via an Android port. Well Alec Saunders, head of developer relations for BlackBerry, is well aware of the issues users are having with Android ports.

In an interview that Saunders had with CNET, he was very clear how BlackBerry users view Android ports.

“From a commercial perspective, users hate them,” said Alec Saunders, head of developer relations at BlackBerry. “Our partners who have ported apps get dinged for them.”

Many of us are hoping that the update to the Android Runtime will make these ports work better. However the best possible solution is that developers realize there is momentum with BlackBerry 10 and make a native app. We have already seen evidence of this happening with Songza, so hopefully other developers will see this move to native apps.

BlackBerry OS 10.1 Starts Rolling Out Officially on Singtel in Singapore

Last week at BlackBerry Live in Orlando, Florida it was made know that BlackBerry OS 10.1 would start rolling out around the world with it hitting the US by the end of the month. Well OS 10.1 has landed on Singtel in Singapore! Singtel is the largest wireless carrier in Singapore as of right now it is being said the Starhub and M1 as well as other wireless carries in the region will be getting the update soon.

Now let it be know that this official OS is not as updated as one would think as the latest leaked OS offers a higher version number.

BlackBerry World Sees 20% Of Purchases Being Made On Music, Says BlackBerry Exec

BlackBerry has never been big on the music. They tried BBM Music and that was a bust. And when you think of BlackBerry you aren’t thinking about listening to music on it. BlackBerry 10 has obviously changed that way of thinking because music is accounting for 20% of purchases made at BlackBerry World.

This information was found out by Trusted Reviews, who spoke to Charlie Miller during BlackBerry Live. Miller, who is BlackBerry’s Director of Alliances, said “20 per cent of overall purchases on BlackBerry World is music” also saying “That’s just music, not movie and TV and that’s a lot higher than some.” “I can’t comment on the other guys, but what I can say is that proportionally that is a very high number.”

Good job BlackBerry, another point in your favor. The more variety and choices that are available to users at BlackBerry World, the more of a draw it will be. Music was definitely lacking before, I know it annoyed me. And I am sure it turned some people away from BlackBerries too.

Device Switch transfers the following information:

* Calendar (including recurring entries)

Download Device Switch for BlackBerry 10 from BlackBerry World. Then head to either Google Play or App Store for iOS to get the download for the device switch app for the other phone. You have to have the BlackBerry app and your other phone app in order to transfer the info from one device to the other.
