Here we are in December already… Where did the time go??? We here at NerdBerry want to celebrate the holidays in a HUGE way! Starting today and ending on December 23 we are going to be running a Holiday Photo Contest from RIM and NerdBerry!!! We have TWO BlackBerry prize packs up for grabs. The two prize packs consist of one T-Mobile Branded BlackBerry Bold 9900 and one 32GB BlackBerry PlayBook!! We have put a lot of thought in to this contest and we have come up with the Holiday Photo Contest!

How do you enter? Of course you MUST do the regular stuff  such as – “Like” our Facebook page, Follow us on Twiter, Subscribe to our YouTube Channel and leave a comment letting us know the top three have been completed…

Because this is such a huge contest we are going to throw in one more thing, don’t fret it is not hard.  All you have to do is take a picture of your current smartphone next to your favorite holiday item such as your Christmas tree, favorite food, favorite ornament, favorite holiday movie, etc.. Send it in to us with a caption explaining why you chose that particular holiday item. Remember be creative, get your family involved after all it is the holidays and most of all have fun doing it!

Submit your photos via email to info@nerdberry.net Using the subject “Holiday Photo Contest from RIM and NerdBerry!!”.  Photo’s must be received by no later then December 23rd 2012. On December 24th the NerdBerry team will post all of the photo’s and captions received and we will announce the two winners on December 25, 2012.

One of the reason I picked up my Samsung Galaxy S 2 on T-Mobile was the fact T-Mobile did NOT disable the NFC function. I found a vendor that sells NFC stickers on Amazon so I order some. When I received the NFC stickers in I immediately started playing with it. I was able to program one of my NFC sticker to enable/disable WiFi on my GS2 by using an application called NFC Task Launcher. I wanted to do the same with my BlackBerry Bold. That was not possible using the T-Mobile BlackBerry Bold 9900… Until now!!!!

As you can see from the screen shot below I was able to shrink the OS to Only 146.29MB from 256.70MB. I want you to understand if you have never loaded a leaked/Hybrid OS make sure you do your research and make sure you have a back up. If you have any questions please feel free to ask in the comments! Here are the instructions for loading the Leaked/Hybrid OS 7.1.0.342 OS:

Instructions: (Select ONE method – I have included 3. Each one gives you the same OS)

Method 1 – no base:
1. Install OS to PC
1a. Shrink your OS if you want
2. Install to phone
3a. For best results, do 2-3 battery pulls and allow 24-48 hour “settling” time

Method 2 – .284 base:
1. Install OS 7.1.0.284 to PC
2. Install this OS over the OS folder above
2a. Shrink your OS if you want
3. Install to phone
3a. For best results, do 2-3 battery pulls and allow 24-48 hour “settling” time

Method 3 – .267 base:
1. Install OS 7.1.0.267 to PC
2. Install this OS over the OS folder above

I used method 1 – no base. I completely wiped my BlackBerry Bold 9900 to a 507 error then loaded the OS and presto I now HAVE NFC ON MY BLACKBERRY BOLD 9900!!!

The future of RIM depends on the what and how they launch the next generation BlackBerry 10 devices. The devices are rumored to be as follows: London, Lisbon, Milan, Nevada, and Black Forest. Now we told you yester day the the BlackBerry Milan had been cancelled due to hardware issue again a rumor... “Peter Misek, a analyst from Jefferies & Co., has stated that he believes RIM has, or will, start to licence the BlackBerry 10 OS to other manufacturers such as Samsung, HTC.”

“We think some of this has already been started with RIM likely agreeing to license Blackberry 10 to Samsung, HTC, and possibly others. This would help create a critical mass for the ecosystem and maintain RIM’s monthly service revenue; however, it puts more pressure on the hardware business in the short term. Longer term, it possibly gets people hooked on the RIM ecosystem and may in fact allow them to sell more BB 10 handsets (if they are able to create compelling handsets).”

Peter Misek an analyst  for Jefferies & Co stated we may see a  “hybrid” operating system of sorts before the end of this year, perhaps by the summer, using kernel code from QNX underneath the existing BlackBerry OS 6.” This is all based on “historical discussions” and a review of BlackBerry code, Misek points to technical limitations in BlackBerry devices, such as a memory ceiling of 256 megabytes. That will need to be conquered if forthcoming devices, such as the “Storm 3,” the “Bold Touch,” and the “Torch 2” can support 512 megabytes or more of RAM.” Hmm, I am a huge fan of hybrid OS’s so this really has my attention. If this hybrid OS come to full circle I see the RIM taking a giant leap forward! Please feel free to share your thoughts on this post.

I just received a link to a leaked version of Theme Builder 6 with support for all OS 6 devices!!! I am so happy now I can go back to OS 6 and have themes!!!  Thank you  @triax0 and @AnthonyScags

Word is that the Storm3′s codename will be known as BlackBerry Monaco. This gives a little bit of background on the phone. The new image is believed to be a Storm3 prototype. The second device to get a new codename is the Hybrid touchscreen device. It will be known as a BlackBerry Montana; it is also rumored to be the elusive model 9900.

One thing to remember, code names can change like the seasons so keep up with all of the news to make sure you are looking for the correct thing.

 This is my hybrid for the 9700 devices.Uninstall any other OS’s from your computer for a fresh/clean install. Please back up all your data before proceeding.
