Images show BlackBerry 10 running on the PlayBook

A good friend of mine Kyle (@BBKyle_) sent me the below images of something he has been working on. This something is BlackBerry 10 running on the BlackBerry PlayBook!!! Now we have seen numerous images of the PlayBook running BlackBerry 10 as well as a video showing off the BlackBerry 10 boot screen, but that is it. Kyle has been able to get a few things running on the PlayBook like BBM, the browser and a few other items. At this time he is checking the OS out fully to make sure everything is fully functional.

BlackBerry has not said a peep about BlackBerry 10 on the PlayBook in sometime now, so we hope Kyle can get his OS fully functioning so we can get some BB10 love on our PlayBooks! Check out the images below and let us know what you think about them in the comments.

Fast Browser for BlackBerry PlayBook

Many of our readers are looking for ways to improve their experience when it comes to using their BlackBerry products. One thing that I look for as a user is ways to improve the speed on the devices that I use. I have given up hope on speeding up my 9650 but I still look for ways to improve speed on my PlayBook. One thing that people have constantly complained about on the PlayBook is the rendering speed when it comes to browsing online. Fast Browser by BumbleBee Computing does just that. The app is designed to speed up the loading of pages as well as give users plenty of added features that are not readily available with the native browser that is offered by BlackBerry. It is built using the native engine but makes various improvements to the end user experience.

The features of Fast Browser are as follows:

Fast Mode
-A fast mode (blue lightning icon) is provided as default that optimizes for speed when dealing with web pages that are text and image and don’t require the full web engine rendering capabilities. For pages that need it, tap once on blue lightning icon to toggle to full mode.

Powerful Tabs
-Launch up-to 6 simultaneous web sessions similar to what you can do using a desktop browser with the built-in tab support. Each of the web sessions are live and run in parallel leveraging the powerful multi-tasking capabilites of the BlackBerry® PlayBook™.
-Use a tab to play YouTube music in the background, another to browse the latest news, another to look at real-time updates of stock prices, and yet other to read your favorite RSS feeds.
-Switching between tabs is instantaneous and easy to do. Just tap on the tab you want in the icon list of tabs at the bottom of the screen. Adding and removing tabs is just as easy.

Full-screen mode
-Remove all the browser navigation controls so that you can have the full screen to view your web pages. Simply top-bezel swipe to enter into full-screen and do the same to go back to normal mode.

In-page instant search
-Search within the web page by typing on the URL bar. As you type, all matches on the page are highlighted.

Quick access google search
-Quickly access the google search engine by typing on the URL bar and hitting enter. Fast Browser will auto-detect if it is a search term or a URL and will take the appropriate action.

Optimized for easy-of-use
-Fast Browser keeps track of your most visited websites and presents the top 25 in a scroll list of thumbnails that you can quickly select when you start a new tab.

Favorites Bookmarks
-Add an unlimited amount of bookmarks by selecting the favorite button. A scroll list of thumbnails of your favorite websites is presented when you start a new tab.

There are some great things that this app does but there are some areas that need some improvement as well. The developer is very in touch with the users and welcomes comments and requests.

There are some improvements that the Developer is planning on in the near future as well as frequent updates to Fast Browser.

Spotify Comes To The Playbook

While this isn’t the official Spotify app, an impatient developer cleverly came up with his own version. Currently just for the Playbook but with plans for the BlackBerry 10 version. To able to download it, because it isn’t a BlackBerry World app, you will have to sideload it. I am sure many Playbook users are veterans of sideloading by now.

SiteBook for BlackBerry PlayBook

One issue that has plagued PlayBook owners is the absence of bookmarks in the browser. There hasn’t been any options available to help store the bookmarks on the PlayBook until now. SiteBook is a new app available that does just that.

SiteBook allows you to create and organize your website bookmarks, notes and tasks:

- Add items as websites, notes or tasks
- Tap a website item to open it in the Browser
- Launch SiteBook immediately before or after launching your Browser, and it will always be just a single swipe away while browsing the web
- Create custom categories to organize your items
- Filter your items by category
- Export your items as text files
- Backup and restore your data from an external file

The application was designed by Kate Swasing and is available in App World for Free.

A Day In Life – Journal For BlackBerry 10 And The Playbook Gets An Update

A Day In Life, the electronic journal to keep track of how your day went got updated. Both the BlackBerry 10 and Playbook version were updated to v3.0.
What’s in the update?

Now supports both portrait and landscape orientations
Edit Location – use current location, search by name or locate on interactive map
Use Map, Satelite, Terrain or Hybrid views in location
Edit weather (icon and temperature)
Tap a picture to view it in full screen image viewer
Bug fixes and performance improvements

This is a really great app for keeping track of anything that comes to mind. You don’t have to necessarily write about your feelings, but also ideas, lists and more. You can go back to certain dates as it uses a calendar layout.

Luke At The Stars For BlackBerry Playbook, Makes You Read The Game Title Twice

First because I thought it was Star Wars related. And then because it really is “look at the stars.” Took me a minute to realize, I was a bit slow I admit. Anyway, Luke has a cute back story:
Luke at the Stars is a tiny puzzle game that tells the story of Luke, a little boy who decided to visit the love of his life, but found the door shut close. Sad, he decided to wander around the city looking for a spot to gaze at the stars and think about life, but the skyline was full of tall buildings! He then wishes for the buildings to be gone. You must help him out in this action-puzzle game by combining floors alike and making them disappear, revealing more of his story. Will he find the love of his life?
Alpaca Team is behind this brand new Playbook game. Luke at the Stars actually won BlackBerry Hackathon “Best Game” prize last September so it must be a good one. I like the story behind the game, makes you want to reach the end to see if he will see his love again. Plus it’s a puzzle game! There’s a game trailer below so you can get a preview.

Think-4-U Music for the BlackBerry PlayBook

Bumblebee Computing has released Think-4-U Music Player for the BlackBerry PlayBook. I have been using Think-4-U Music Player for a few days and I am truly blown away at all of the features this application has! The number one feature I adore has to be the ability to learn from your listening habits. Basically, the application builds an adaptive playlist customized to your liking this is called Think Mode.

Think-4-U Music for the BlackBerry PlayBook offers all kinds of great features from the Think Mode to the Gesture-enabled UI! The Gesture-enabled UI let’s you use gestures to navigate through your music with ease: swipe left for next song; swipe right for previous; quickly scroll through list of your music library using a velocity sensitive flick gesture; single tap on viewing area to toggle play/pause.

Playlists:

Create unlimited custom playlists with ease using a drag-and-drop interface
Create playlist directly from a folder
Quickly add songs to “My Favorites” playlist with one tap
Create a dynamic playlist based on the search results
Recognizes and plays .m3u playlists created from programs like iTunes

Think-4-U Music for the BlackBerry PlayBook supports the following formats mp3, wma, wav, m4a, and aac. You your MP3′s have lyrics enabled, it will show them in the application as the song is playing. Album artwork will be present if it is available, if not it will pull Flickr’s interesting image of the day.

Think-4-U Music also lets you do an “Instant global search” this provides you the ability to quickly search for the songs you are looking for across artist, song title, and album name. Use the results as a dynamic playlist!, “Auto-resume” automatically resume the song you were playing in the playlist, “Sleep-timer” fall asleep to your favorite songs and have player turn off at the interval of your choosing.

Movie formats are also supported on the PlayBook including mp4, mov, m4v, and so on.
