While I am sure that there are some consumers that would be sad not to see the new BlackBerry 10 operating system and the BlackBerry Z10 make their way to Korea, if the sales aren’t there BlackBerry is making the right decision. One of the major barriers for BlackBerry is that much like in Japan, they are limited to one carrier in Korea: SK Telecom.  Without having multiple carriers on board it is very difficult to expand market share, especially in a country home to Samsung and LG.

BlackBerry did respond to the reports of them leaving Korea, and here is what they had to say.

BlackBerry enjoys a constructive relationship with trusted partner, SK Telecom, and we will continue to support the carrier’s ongoing BlackBerry sales in Korea. We will continue to provide BlackBerry service and after-sales support to BlackBerry’s Korean customers, both consumers and business users.

BlackBerry is currently still in negotiations with SK Telecom about the possibility of bringing the Z10 to Korea, but at this time no decision has been made.

Here we are in December already… Where did the time go??? We here at NerdBerry want to celebrate the holidays in a HUGE way! Starting today and ending on December 23 we are going to be running a Holiday Photo Contest from RIM and NerdBerry!!! We have TWO BlackBerry prize packs up for grabs. The two prize packs consist of one T-Mobile Branded BlackBerry Bold 9900 and one 32GB BlackBerry PlayBook!! We have put a lot of thought in to this contest and we have come up with the Holiday Photo Contest!

How do you enter? Of course you MUST do the regular stuff  such as – “Like” our Facebook page, Follow us on Twiter, Subscribe to our YouTube Channel and leave a comment letting us know the top three have been completed…

Because this is such a huge contest we are going to throw in one more thing, don’t fret it is not hard.  All you have to do is take a picture of your current smartphone next to your favorite holiday item such as your Christmas tree, favorite food, favorite ornament, favorite holiday movie, etc.. Send it in to us with a caption explaining why you chose that particular holiday item. Remember be creative, get your family involved after all it is the holidays and most of all have fun doing it!

Submit your photos via email to info@nerdberry.net Using the subject “Holiday Photo Contest from RIM and NerdBerry!!”.  Photo’s must be received by no later then December 23rd 2012. On December 24th the NerdBerry team will post all of the photo’s and captions received and we will announce the two winners on December 25, 2012.

We have seen 7.1.0.267 leak a couple of weeks ago and after rigorous testing, SK Telecom has deemed that it is a stable enough OS and thus released it as OFFICIAL!

OS 7.1 brings the Mobile Hotspot feature to your BlackBerry 9900 enabling your BlackBerry internet connection to act as a WiFi hotspot so others can connect to your BlackBerry and benefit from using its internet connection. Very handy also for yourself if you have a laptop or an iPad and are on the go!

Instructions for installation:

• After the download is complete, make sure you have no other OS installed on your PC from the Control Panel (Usually named BlackBerry Device Software), install the file you have just downloaded.
• Next, Navigate to one of the following paths depending on your Windows Operating System:
• •32-bit: Computer/C:/Program Files/Common Files/Research In Motion/AppLoader
• •64-bit: Computer/C:/Program Files (x86)/Common Files/Research In Motion/AppLoader
• Delete the file name vendor or vendor.xml in that folder.
• While you are still in that folder, after you have deleted the above mentioned file, you will find another file by the name of Loader.exe or simply Loader
• Run that file, you will now get the screen to initialize the upgrade of the OS on your BB, click next to continue, your device PIN will be listed on this next screen, click next again to continue.
• Now you will get with a list of options to select or deselect the components you want to install.
• Carefully select only the items that you need, do not select all the chat messengers and components you know you will not use as this will eat up your precious application memory.
• After you have selected the components you want to install, click next, and the upgrade process shall begin.
• Your phone will automatically create a backup of your settings / apps first, then it will wipe the old OS then install the new one and restore the backup.
• Should anything go wrong at this stage, you will have to wipe your device nd try again, but luckily, we have created a backup file at the beginning of these instructions, so you will still be able to restore all your contacts, emails, settings, etc. easily.
