With BlackBerry Live set to kick off on Tuesday, we will be flying into Orlando tomorrow to get all set up to bring you the most update BlackBerry coverage. UK Developers Get Info On Limited Edition Devices

Not too long ago UK developers received a non LTE version of the LE device. Considering North America received the proper LTE, they were a little upset about it. BlackBerry has addressed the issue by saying:

Congratulations on receiving your new BlackBerry 10 Limited Edition device. We understand however that you were sent the incorrect device model for your region. As a result we are going to set up a swap process for these devices.

They had previously mentioned that they were going to handle the issue and they have done so fairly quickly. There should also be follow ups to each developer as to when they will be getting their new device.

BlackBerry OS 10.1 Beta Lands for Dev Alpha B/C & Simulators – Z10 Beta Coming!

BlackBerry has made a lot of developers extremely happy! They have released beta OS 10.1 for the BlackBerry Dev Alpha B & C along with the simulators. Here is what they had to say:

Hey BlackBerry devs – we’ve got exciting news for you! To tide you over until the much awaited BlackBerry Q10 release, you’ll be seeing a new SDK OS update for your BlackBerry Dev Alpha C devices. This 10.1C SDK OS is a developer preview that allows you to check out how your apps will run on the soon-to-be-released Q10 device.

What about Dev Alpha B devices?

We’ve got an update for that too! With this release you’ll be able to check out how your Z10 apps will run on the 10.1 OS, and make all the necessary changes, if needed.

Have you already submitted your awesome app and received your LE BlackBerry 10 device? Or have you already picked up your own BlackBerry Z10?

We certainly want to see more of your great app ideas come to life, so you’ll also be seeing a 10.1C SDK OS update for these devices as well.

Will the simulators be getting an update too?

Yes! There will be a 10.1C SDK OS build for the BlackBerry 10 simulator, so whether you test on a device or a simulator, know that you’ll be able to test on the most recent build available. You won’t see two different simulators available but you will get one simulator with the option to boot to a Z10 or Q10 resolution.

Let’s recap the updates that you’ll be seeing:

BlackBerry Dev Alpha B & C autoloader
BlackBerry OS 10.1 simulators
BlackBerry Z10 and BlackBerry Z10 LE autoloader

So how can you get these updates for your device?

The 10.1C SDK OS will be available for each device through its own autoloader – you’ll see one each for the Dev Alpha C and the Dev Alpha B.

For developers who want to test it on their BlackBerry Z10, you’ll need to find out your device model number and grab the corresponding autoloader. The device model can be found under Settings> About. See the example screenshot below

Note: This SDK OS update is only for testing purposes and does not replace your full BlackBerry 10 OS. To revert your BlackBerry Z10 to a public OS release, please follow the steps outlined in this KB Article. Using BlackBerry Link, you will be able to reload your device software to a full OS and, if needed, download any OS updates from your carrier.

Device targets for the Momentics IDE will also be updated. If you need a refresher on how to download the target OS and configure it, we’ve got a detailed description right here.

Tongue’s John Du Vernet Hired as BlackBerry’s Australian Marketing Director

A few months back there was a campaign that was ran in Australia called the “Wake Up” campaign that was developed and implemented by Tongue. The man behind the campaign was John Du Vernet and he has been appointed as the Marketing Director for BlackBerry’s Australia market. This is not a permanent position with BlackBerry but he is working this post indefinitely as there has been no date set for his return to Tongue.

Maybe Vernet can spur interest in the BlackBerry brand in Australia as he did with the creative Wake Up campaign in the past.

BlackBerry 10 Limited Edition Shows Its Colour At BlackBerry Jam Europe

We knew that we were going to see the BlackBerry 10 Limited Edition device at BlackBerry Jam Europe. We also knew that it was going to be a unique colour compared to the other BlackBerry 10 devices. Well we know have a picture of the LE in all its colourful glory.

As you can see from the image BlackBerry decided to go with a red colour on the Limited Edition Z10 for developers. BlackBerry has made 12,000 of these bad boys and they will start to ship out to qualified developers within the next few weeks. If you have not submitted for a LE device, the good news is the deadline has been extended to February 28th, so don’t forget to apply here.

I don’t know about you, but I kinda wish that red colour was made available to consumers as well, as it is definitely looking very hot.

BlackBerry 10 Limited Edition Will Be Shown Off At BlackBerry Jam Europe

We have been wondering when the BlackBerry 10 Limited Edition device was going to be unveiled. It looks like we are going to get the first official look at it tomorrow during BlackBerry Jam Europe. Thanks to a tweet sent out by Alec Saunders, we have some news about the LE BlackBerry 10 device.

Now if you want to follow all the BlackBerry Jam Europe news and events you are going to want to set those alarms, as the show starts at 4am EST Tuesday February 5, 2013. We do know that the Limited Edition device is going to be a special colour to show developers how appreciated they are. Drop us a comment letting us know what colour you think the LE is going to be.

BlackBerry Announces Limited Edition Device Solution For Verizon Wireless Developers

One of the bonuses for developers that got qualified apps submitted in time was that they could trade in their Dev Alpha device for a limited edition one. Now this was all good until BlackBerry stated that they were having issues with CDMA carriers for the Limited Edition device. Well the Inside BlackBerry DevBlog has now issued a statement on where the whole Limited Edition for Verizon issue stands.

Many developers have already submitted their requests for the Limited Edition BlackBerry 10 device. We’ve started sending out confirmation emails to those that have qualified for the device. Due to unforeseen circumstances beyond our control we are unable to offer a Limited Edition BlackBerry 10 for developers on the Verizon network.

Some developers have indicated that they are very loyal Verizon customers and would only like the device on their preferred network. So for these developers, we will offer them a choice. In lieu of the Limited Edition BlackBerry 10 device, developers on Verizon can instead:

Request a Verizon BlackBerry 10 device to replace their BlackBerry 10 Dev Alpha, adhering to the same terms and conditions of the Limited Edition device in order to qualify. This will be a final commercial device and will ship when BlackBerry 10 is commercially available on Verizon.

Request a Limited Edition BlackBerry 10 device from an alternate carrier, one which is supported as a part of the Limited Edition program.

For those developers who have already requested their Limited Edition device on Verizon, email communication will follow in the coming days requesting your preferred selection. For those who have not yet requested their Limited Edition BlackBerry 10 device, but wish to pursue option 1, updated instructions on procedure will be made available as soon as possible.

Please do not hesitate to leave a comment or discuss with your favorite Developer Relations team member should you have any thoughts on the matter or feedback you’d like to share.

Also – if you want to request more information on the BlackBerry Z10 on Verizon – head on over head and register!

The good news is that developers that qualify who are Verizon customers will still get a device, the bad news is that they are going to miss out and whatever the Limited Edition one is. We are assuming this all had something to do with Verizon not being willing to let BlackBerry put a device on their radio stack that Verizon had not locked down. I do not think we will ever get the full details, but this is the one thing that really makes sense to us. Let us know what you think of this whole situation in the comments.

No Limited Edition BlackBerry 10 Devices For Verizon

Developers applied for the Limited Edition BlackBerry 10 Devices to be used on Verizon but were declined. So RIM sent out an email to say that they weren’t getting them. But not the reason why. Hit the break to read the email from Research In Motion.

We want to start by saying thank you for you continued support and commitment to the BlackBerry 10 platform. The excitement around this launch, device and platform is palpable and we owe our developer community a debt of gratitude for that. In fact, that’s one reason we want to give the Limited Edition BlackBerry 10 smartphone to our developers.

I wanted to let you know that although you have applied to receive a BlackBerry 10 Limited Edition device, we are not able to offer the device from Verizon. Instead we will send you a 4G device.

Please note that Verizon is completely committed to launching BlackBerry 10 devices, but we are not able to order the Limited Edition devices at this time.

Leaked Screenshots Show BlackBerry 10 Maps

As we get closer to the launch of BlackBerry 10, we are starting to see more and more leaked images showing off the native applications baked in to the OS. We now have a nice spread of images showing off the native BlackBerry 10 Maps application! the images depict a older software version, one would expect to see Blackberry Navigator on BlackBerry 10 for turn-by-turn navigation. A look at the BlackBerry 10 Clock

Yesterday we had a nice look at Bedtime Mode on Blackberry 10, today we are taking a look at the Blackberry 10 clock. As you can see in the images below you have the regular clock (which we have seen before), The Stopwatch, World clock, and Timer. After seeing the Bedtime Mode clock on BlackBerry 10 we hope that we can use the same orange display for the regular clock as well. Hit the break to see all of the images.
