With BlackBerry Live set to kick off on Tuesday, we will be flying into Orlando tomorrow to get all set up to bring you the most update BlackBerry coverage. BlackBerry 10 Adobe AIR SDK Reaches Gold Status

As we quickly approach the official launch of BlackBerry 10 more and more developers tools are reaching Gold status. Today it is the BlackBerry 10 SDK for Adobe AIR, which will help developers get their AIR based apps fine tuned for BlackBerry 10.

Holiday Photo Contest from RIM and NerdBerry!! Enter for a Chance to Win One of Two BlackBerry Prize Packs!!!

Here we are in December already… Where did the time go??? We here at NerdBerry want to celebrate the holidays in a HUGE way! Starting today and ending on December 23 we are going to be running a Holiday Photo Contest from RIM and NerdBerry!!! We have TWO BlackBerry prize packs up for grabs. The two prize packs consist of one T-Mobile Branded BlackBerry Bold 9900 and one 32GB BlackBerry PlayBook!! We have put a lot of thought in to this contest and we have come up with the Holiday Photo Contest!

How do you enter? Of course you MUST do the regular stuff such as – “Like” our Facebook page, Follow us on Twiter, Subscribe to our YouTube Channel and leave a comment letting us know the top three have been completed…

Because this is such a huge contest we are going to throw in one more thing, don’t fret it is not hard. All you have to do is take a picture of your current smartphone next to your favorite holiday item such as your Christmas tree, favorite food, favorite ornament, favorite holiday movie, etc.. Send it in to us with a caption explaining why you chose that particular holiday item. Remember be creative, get your family involved after all it is the holidays and most of all have fun doing it!

Submit your photos via email to info@nerdberry.net Using the subject “Holiday Photo Contest from RIM and NerdBerry!!”. Photo’s must be received by no later then December 23rd 2012. On December 24th the NerdBerry team will post all of the photo’s and captions received and we will announce the two winners on December 25, 2012.

RIM confirms that Adobe AIR apps qualify for the $10K Developer Commitment and Built for BlackBerry Program

When RIM fully announced all the requirements and rules for the $10K Developer Commitment there was much speculation as to whether or not Adobe AIR apps would qualify. Today RIM has made it clear that Adobe AIR apps will indeed be a part of the developer commitment, which is of course what we expected to hear from RIM in the end. They also reiterated that apps made with any of the AIR tools (BlackBerry 10 SDK for Adobe AIR, NME, Flash Builder) would be included in the program.

RIM suggests using NME for Fast, Native games (without C/C++)

today on the BlackBerry DevBlog, Joshua Granick, made the argument for porting Adobe Air to native speed with NME. Personally I was unfamiliar with NME, but basically it is a cross-platform framework for rapid game and application development. Granick makes the argument that developers should really look at NME to get their games ported to BlackBerry 10 with very little work, and with some outstanding results.

The article is a great read, and I suggest you hit up the source link to check it all out, but is an excerpt that shows just how powerful NME can be for developers.

BunnyMark is a popular benchmark for Flash Player. Testing on a BlackBerry® PlayBook™, Adobe AIR rendered 500 bunnies @ 11 FPS. Using NME, the same device rendered an astonishing 5250 bunnies @ 30 FPS. NME applications are significantly faster than AIR (with or without Stage3D) and are comparable to applications built with other native frameworks.

BlackBerry 10 SDK for Adobe AIR Beta is now available for download

For all you developers out there that work within Adobe AIR, the BlackBerry 10 SDK for Air Beta is now available for download. This SDK will allow for easy ports of existing Adobe AIR based apps, and will hopefully help to bulk up the number of BlackBerry 10 apps available at launch time. While you cannot publish your apps yet, you can get them to the point where they are ready to go when that function becomes available. If you are a developer that works within Adobe AIR I highly suggest you hit up the source link to download the Beta today.

RIM Once Again Hints to Zinio Coming to the BlackBerry PlayBook

Zinio is a Adobe Air based application that has been mentioned many many times before, but has never came to fruition on the PlayBook. The rumor has started again. RIM slipped this announcement into their OS 2.0 announcement at CES. Here is what they had to say:

Your favorite apps plus thousands more – many exciting new applications built for the BlackBerry PlayBook will be made available on BlackBerry App World with the availability of BlackBerry PlayBook OS 2.0. From gaming and lifestyle to business and productivity, RIM is showcasing some of the latest apps available for the BlackBerry PlayBook at CES 2012 including Angry Birds, Cut the Rope, Groupon, Thomson Reuters, Zinio and many more.

As you can see, there are quite a few things that RIM is trying to do with OS 2.0. Only time will tell what will actually happen.

Adobe Clarifies Their Position on Flash, HTML 5, AIR, and FLEX for Mobile

Last week Adobe tried to convey that they were no longer going to support the mobile flash platform. We all focused on the last announcement that was made stating Adobe is “no longer going to be actively developing the Flash Player for Mobile Browsers.”

Looking further into the other announcements that were made further explains exactly what Adobe’s future plans are. If you are a dev you should really looking the other announcements that Adobe made.
