Tame Impala is a popular band from Australia you may or may not have heard of them, but you may have heard their music. Yes featured in the “Keep Moving” commercial from BlackBerry is a soundtrack from the Tame Impala and the album, Lonerism has debuted on Billboard‘s Top 200 Album Chart at #34, has lead to a spike in sales in the US. The push to the US market has been stemmed from the BlackBerry advertisements on the brink of the up and coming launch of BlackBerry 10 to the US. What do you think of the new BlackBerry 10 and music from the Tame Impala?

Here we are in December already… Where did the time go??? We here at NerdBerry want to celebrate the holidays in a HUGE way! Starting today and ending on December 23 we are going to be running a Holiday Photo Contest from RIM and NerdBerry!!! We have TWO BlackBerry prize packs up for grabs. The two prize packs consist of one T-Mobile Branded BlackBerry Bold 9900 and one 32GB BlackBerry PlayBook!! We have put a lot of thought in to this contest and we have come up with the Holiday Photo Contest!

How do you enter? Of course you MUST do the regular stuff  such as – “Like” our Facebook page, Follow us on Twiter, Subscribe to our YouTube Channel and leave a comment letting us know the top three have been completed…

Because this is such a huge contest we are going to throw in one more thing, don’t fret it is not hard.  All you have to do is take a picture of your current smartphone next to your favorite holiday item such as your Christmas tree, favorite food, favorite ornament, favorite holiday movie, etc.. Send it in to us with a caption explaining why you chose that particular holiday item. Remember be creative, get your family involved after all it is the holidays and most of all have fun doing it!

Submit your photos via email to info@nerdberry.net Using the subject “Holiday Photo Contest from RIM and NerdBerry!!”.  Photo’s must be received by no later then December 23rd 2012. On December 24th the NerdBerry team will post all of the photo’s and captions received and we will announce the two winners on December 25, 2012.

What’s been fixed?

• BBM chats were not restored during device upgrade. User has to sign into BBID and then re-restore the chats from the backup file.
• Incoming call doesnt ring if user is in camera app
• Speaker enabled when incoming call rejected and already on BBM Voice call
• Messages from BBM Voice are cut off frequently
• Device switch failed, client stuck at “Restoring BBM” state
• After hanging up after a voice chat longer than 5 minutes, the device that did not hang up remains on the calling screen
• With a song playing, when a user receives a BBM Voice call the music continues to play in the background of the ringtone
• User cannot accept calls properly while content protection enabled and password locked
• While recording a voice note, if an BBM Voice chat is initiated no audio is heard between devices
• Avatar display picture not being updated correctly for BBM Voice calls
• Broadcast messages are received in black text
• Active BBM Voice calls are randomly disconnecting
• Contacts see each other as unavailable although both are registered and can see other contacts as available
• Chat Tear
• BBM Groups – Text entry field in group chat expands to cover up the last message in chat history instead of the chat history scrolling up
• Contact list search feature randomly stops returning results
• No missed call message appears when the caller ends the call before the receiver picks up
• Wrong message appears when declining a voice chat using ‘Reply in BBM’
• After accepting a call after 30 seconds of ringing the device being called gets stuck on connecting screen
• Voice chats exceeding 13 minutes maybe disconnected

RIM has been pretty silent on the success of BBM Music, but maybe they are keeping this in their back pocket.

The first commercial is showing off BBM Music on a Curve 9320, which is now available on all carriers in the UK.  The second ad is showcasing NFC on a Bold 9790, and then the third and final ad  is all about the browser on the Bold 9900.  Now I don’t mean to nitpick, but is showing off NFC mobile payments really a good choice?  While NFC isn’t new and mobile payments have been around for a little while now too, it hasn’t hit mainstream and there seems to still be a year or two before we really see that happen.

Either way it is good to see that RIM is not taking a back seat and that they are releasing new commercials to help garner some more support for the platform in anticipation of BlackBerry 10 coming out later this year.  Check out all three videos and let us know what you think!

Invitation Requests

Discovering similar musical tastes just got easier! When an invitation request is sent from a ‘friend of a friend’ through Recent Updates you will now be able to view songs and the common friend before accepting/declining an invitation.

‘Favorite’ Songs and Contacts

You can now highlight songs or contacts as favorites in BBM Music 1.2! To favorite a song, you need to click on the star displayed in the top left hand corner while listening to a specific song. When the star is highlighted yellow, this will indicate the song as a “favorite” and you will now be able to access this song through “favorite songs” on your profile tab. Favorite songs will be displayed to your friends in Recent Updates

For a favorite contact, when you visit a contact’s page you can select “favorite” from the top menu bar. This will add a highlighted yellow star beside the contact’s name in the contacts tab which will only be visible to you. You will now have the ability to search by “favorite” contacts within the contacts tab.

Intelligent Shuffle

Intelligent shuffle offers you the ability to shuffle songs by favorite songs, genre, artist, song popularity, album, contact, release year or recently added. To access the intelligent shuffle, on the home tab click “shuffle” which will display the shuffle menu shown below.

A Default Friend for all New Users

New users to BBM Music will now have a default friend listed as a contact. 

Application Enhancements

If you are an existing BBM Music user you will also notice improved notification for friends already using BBM Music, improved performance at startup and easier access to account information from the profile screen.
