Though not confirmed by BlackBerry, a Bell document showed some new upcoming features for BlackBerry 10.1. Not just OS 10.1 is mentioned in the document but the Q10 as well. The Q10 has already received a release date, but there is no date for 10.1. Although in the document it says available soon for the Q10, so perhaps 10.1 will be released shortly after.

What are the new features?
More notification options for contacts and messages
The ability to transfer data from a BB7 device to BB10 using BlackBerry Protect
Dark theme for apps like calendar and contacts
Improved camera options like HDR

These sound like very decent updates. BlackBerry has been putting a lot more into their cameras for BlackBerry 10. This time around they are following up and upgrading/updating the camera. I think the transfer data feature should have been launched with OS 10 since many people at the time were coming off of a BlackBerry 7 device. By now they have already transferred their files over.

Here we are in December already… Where did the time go??? We here at NerdBerry want to celebrate the holidays in a HUGE way! Starting today and ending on December 23 we are going to be running a Holiday Photo Contest from RIM and NerdBerry!!! We have TWO BlackBerry prize packs up for grabs. The two prize packs consist of one T-Mobile Branded BlackBerry Bold 9900 and one 32GB BlackBerry PlayBook!! We have put a lot of thought in to this contest and we have come up with the Holiday Photo Contest!

How do you enter? Of course you MUST do the regular stuff  such as – “Like” our Facebook page, Follow us on Twiter, Subscribe to our YouTube Channel and leave a comment letting us know the top three have been completed…

Because this is such a huge contest we are going to throw in one more thing, don’t fret it is not hard.  All you have to do is take a picture of your current smartphone next to your favorite holiday item such as your Christmas tree, favorite food, favorite ornament, favorite holiday movie, etc.. Send it in to us with a caption explaining why you chose that particular holiday item. Remember be creative, get your family involved after all it is the holidays and most of all have fun doing it!

Submit your photos via email to info@nerdberry.net Using the subject “Holiday Photo Contest from RIM and NerdBerry!!”.  Photo’s must be received by no later then December 23rd 2012. On December 24th the NerdBerry team will post all of the photo’s and captions received and we will announce the two winners on December 25, 2012.

Rogers is now revamping their plans to move away from voice and text restricted plans to unlimited ones.

The new plans will start at $55 for 1000 minutes of calls with unlimited messaging however only 200 MB of data. On the top end of the scale it will cost you $95 for unlimited calls and messaging with 5GB of data. The higher end plans also are “share-ready”‘if you happen to want to use a couple of devices on the same plan.

Now while this is a move in the right direction, these prices are still based on customers signing up for a 3 year contract, which is absolutely absurd in this day and age. Hopefully the next big move amongst Canadian carriers will be the reduction to 2 year plans receiving the most subsidies.

As expected Bell and TELUS are also coming out with almost identical plan options in the next few days. This is something that isn’t new to anyone familiar with the carrier market in Canada.

Here is an interesting image from Bell Mobility’s LTE launch page, it appears that the 4G LTE BlackBerry PlayBook may launching soon. The image above shows two different devices on looks to be an Android device and the other appears to be the BlackBerry PlayBook. Now there has been no official announcment of the 4G LTE PlayBook heading toBell Mobility, but from the image above it may be coming soon!

Brand Finance has put together a list of the top 15 brand in Canada. The report caculates the strength of a brand based on the “detailed economic data, infrastructure data and perceptual market research data to rate and then value each nation brand”. Being it that a few carriers made this list as well as the move up by Bell, Canada’s 2nd largest carrier, being it to be the strongest wireless brand. Rogers coming in at  9th and TELUS at 13th.

Research In Motion, still made this list but slid 5 spots and this is what the press release stated, “Blackberry’s dramatic decline comes as other handset providers are encroaching on the traditional B2B space, impacting handset sales. But with news of  the updated v2.0 to the Blackberry Playbook, and the anouncement of Blackberry QNX OS phones to be showcased at DevCon, it will be interesting to see just where RIM lands on the list.
