I am sure there are some of you out there who like to have individual notifications for emails. That was a feature on OS 7 that for some reason didn’t make it to BlackBerry 10. But since BlackBerry 10 was a complete OS overhaul, it was probably not imperative to have at launch. Because the BlackBerry 10.1 Developer Beta has Per Email Notifications.
You can change the LED, the tone, vibrate or make one silent if you wanted. It’s not ultra customizable, as in it doesn’t let you change the length of the tone used and volume setting. But it has the most important part, so if you really want to hear your business emails coming in but not the personal ones, one could be loud and the other vibrate.

They have released beta OS 10.1 for the BlackBerry Dev Alpha B & C along with the simulators. Here is what they had to say:

Hey BlackBerry devs – we’ve got exciting news for you! To tide you over until the much awaited BlackBerry Q10 release, you’ll be seeing a new SDK OS update for your BlackBerry Dev Alpha C devices. This 10.1C SDK OS is a developer preview that allows you to check out how your apps will run on the soon-to-be-released Q10 device.

What about Dev Alpha B devices?

We’ve got an update for that too! With this release you’ll be able to check out how your Z10 apps will run on the 10.1 OS, and make all the necessary changes, if needed.

Have you already submitted your awesome app and received your LE BlackBerry 10 device? Or have you already picked up your own BlackBerry Z10?

We certainly want to see more of your great app ideas come to life, so you’ll also be seeing a 10.1C SDK OS update for these devices as well.

Will the simulators be getting an update too?

Yes! There will be a 10.1C SDK OS build for the BlackBerry 10 simulator, so whether you test on a device or a simulator, know that you’ll be able to test on the most recent build available. You won’t see two different simulators available but you will get one simulator with the option to boot to a Z10 or Q10 resolution.

So how can you get these updates for your device?

The 10.1C SDK OS will be available for each device through its own autoloader – you’ll see one each for the Dev Alpha C and the Dev Alpha B.

For developers who want to test it on their BlackBerry Z10, you’ll need to find out your device model number and grab the corresponding autoloader. The device model can be found under Settings> About. See the example screenshot below

Note: This SDK OS update is only for testing purposes and does not replace your full BlackBerry 10 OS. To revert your BlackBerry Z10 to a public OS release, please follow the steps outlined in this KB Article. Using BlackBerry Link, you will be able to reload your device software to a full OS and, if needed, download any OS updates from your carrier.

Device targets for the Momentics IDE will also be updated. If you need a refresher on how to download the target OS and configure it, we’ve got a detailed description right here.

BlackBerry has now opened registration for BlackBerry 10 devices in the BlackBerry Beta Zone. They have started with the Global BlackBerry 10 Community. Here is what they had to say: “We are excited to launch the first BlackBerry 10 Community in BlackBerry Beta Zone! The goal of this community is to provide you with a space for your voice to be heard by key stakeholders within BlackBerry and by other BlackBerry 10 owners. So come on in, let us know what’s on your mind, and join the discussion!”

Fixed Issues

  • Clean up files that add the #preprocessor markers, but don’t need them.
  • Photos cannot be displayed using Menu option
  • When saving an image with ‘Set as Wallpaper’ checked, two copies saved on the device
  • UI issue when the user is already in the friend’s list when a new friend is added
  • Clicking on the Like + Comments button will open the dialog box for the next photo
  • Swiping on screen with bottom eyelid buttons highlighted, brings up the same image
  • Facebook Photo\like count not displayed correctly when more 3 or more digits
  • Facebook Like\Unlike comments scrolling is not consistent with GCM and menu button
  • Imaging scaling not applied on device rotation
  • Navigation List BB menu option is not toggled correctly
  • Pull to refresh text overlaps with mailbox content
  • Facebook need to sync the Like and Comment bar to refresh when comments and likes are added
  • Incorrect photo is being saved on the device
  • Photo: Spinning green circle shown initially and then screen goes black prior to displaying image
  • Facebook Exiting out of a large photo album causes the screen to go blank
  • Facebook pull to refresh stops working after a few tries
  • Should say loading photos not fetching
  • Sometimes while swiping in a photo album in full screen view, image is not loaded
  • Performance: Slider animation is not smooth when swiping in an album
  • Facebook Photo comments not showing in menu bar and comment count not updating

Known Issues List
- Scrolling is very choppy when scrolling through a large section under the info tab.

  • Facebook and Appworld icons are missing from the main UI
  • Facebook application became unresponsive while scrolling through the Newsfeed
  • Aspect ratio not maintained and image is being stretched to fit screen in portrait mode (only on 6.0 devices)
  • Swiping on screen with bottom eyelid buttons highlighted, brings up the same image
  • Image appears washed out slightly when lower eyelid buttons or tags are highlighted (only on 5.0 devices)
  • Loading Albums With 1000+ Images Takes Too Long To Load
  • Slider animation is not smooth when swiping in an album
  • Occasionally unable exit from full screen to grid view using back key
    Photo takes a long time to load when opening from newsfeed (photos take long to open in general)
  • Facebook Navigation grid change UI not smooth on 6.0 devices
  • Hitting the ‘Back’ key does not close ‘add comment’ dialog on photo full view screen
  • Top caption and photo count should continue to show when user is continuously swiping between images
  • Liking a photo takes you back to the full screen photo
  • Image loading time is high after swiping

We have covered Viber on NerdBerry many times, but this is the first official word from them regarding voice calling being added to the application. Viber will be adding voice calling to their application in April! This is really interesting news since BBM 7 was released with voice calling. Hit the break for more!

Viber for BlackBerry is receiving an update today as well. This update includes stickers and emoticons as well as other improvements in v2.3. Improved the UI and conversation screen with stripes. There is also new translations for Arabic and Spanish.

  • Optimized scrolling for message viewing

Viber CEO stated that:
