MONTREAL AND TORONTO, May 9, 2013 /CNW Telbec/ – RBC and Bell today announced the upcoming availability of an easy, fast and secure way for RBC mobile banking customers to purchase goods and services with debit or credit by simply using their compatible Bell Mobility smartphones.

“RBC is excited to team up with Bell to provide our mutual clients with an integrated mobile solution for debit and credit payments,” said Dave McKay, Group Head, Personal and Commercial Banking, RBC Royal Bank. “This is the first piece of a broad RBC mobile commerce solution rolling out to clients this year, all delivering the great, robust user experience and the security that RBC is known for.”

The new mobile payments solution will be seamlessly integrated into RBC’s existing mobile banking app and will appear as an additional option on the home screen, together with RBC’s peer-to-peer solution that offers a simple way for an RBC customer to send money to any person or business in Canada.

By the end of this year, RBC and Bell Mobility customers will be able to securely pay for transactions with their RBC debit or credit cards using the BlackBerry Z10, Q10, Bold 9900, Bold 9790 or Curve 9360, and a range of Android devices from manufacturers such as Samsung, Sony, HTC, LG and more.

“Canada’s largest banking institution and Canada’s largest communications company are working closely together to ensure reliability, security and ease of use in mobile commerce,” said Wade Oosterman, President of Bell Mobility and Residential Services, and Chief Brand Officer at Bell. “With RBC and Bell, mobile commerce just got better.”

The two companies expect to make the service broadly available by the end of the year and will be road testing the solution with consumer and merchant customers over the summer.

In the development of their solution, RBC and Bell are adhering to all major card association regulations, international interoperability standards developed by the mobile GSM Association, as well as established security and interoperability standards ensuring the transaction receives similar safety and customer protection for unauthorized use to a traditional credit card. Data is stored securely on NFC SIM cards certified by major credit card providers to their international security standards. In future, Bell will make NFC SIM cards available to all NFC-capable devices.

What is a PowerSkin case? Well it is a silicone and plastic case that houses a built in 1500 mAh battery. As you can see in the video and images  below the case fits snugly over the BlackBerry Z10 to keep it protected and charged while on the go. The built in 1500 mAh battery will recharge your Z10 to about 65-75% full if your battery is drained to 10% or lower. This extra boost of juice allows you to stay connected and on the go longer.

The PowerSkin case for the BlackBerry Z10 offers a few great features:

What make this battery case different from ones I have use in the past on my BlackBerry Bold 9900 is the fact BlackBerry does not have charging contacts on the new BlackBerry Z10. As you will see in the below video the PowerSkin case actually has a built in cable with a Micro USB connector on the end. This micro USB cable plugs right in to the charging port on the BlackBerry Z10. Once the cable is plugged in you will see a little slot in the case that allows for the cable and connector to sit nicely in the case.

All in all the PowerSkin case for the BlackBerry Z10 is an excellent choice for charging on the go. We do wish the PowerSkin would have produced the case in a few color options, but that is neither here nor there. Alicia Keys today unveiled an intimate behind-the-scenes video for her Set The World On Fire Tour, which recently launched to rave reviews.  The video features a special behind-the-scenes look of Keys as she prepares for her tour and shares her thoughts about looking forward to connecting with fans on the road.

As a special thank you for coming out to the shows, Alicia is inviting fans to provide personal pictures of themselves through the BlackBerry Keep Moving Hub, which is then used to make a new music video for Keys’ song “Illuminate Me” in each city the show visits. BlackBerry, Proxama and Experience Worldwide have gotten together  to offer a hands on marketing campaign across malls in the UK. This campaign is fully under way in the UK. Users will be able to tap NFC powered smart posters to claim prizes ranging from USB sticks and phone covers to BlackBerry themed shoulder bags.

Proxama managing director Miles Quitmann hopes that the campaign and BlackBerry’s promotion of NFC will pave the way for other mobile phone manufacturers to embrace the technology’s capabilities.

“It’s fantastic that BlackBerry is getting behind NFC as a core feature of the new generation of smart phones,” he said. “We believe that the mobile industry needs to make a concerted effort to educate consumers to the benefits of NFC and what it can do to improve people’s everyday lives.”

“Consumer engagement is a vital cog in the development of NFC and campaigns such as this one will help build the public’s awareness and understanding of it,” he added.
