This is good news as with the addition of a non-removable battery, a first for BlackBerry, there will definitely be a need for a larger one.  I have been using the 2100mAh battery in the Q10 for just about a week now, and if the R10 has an even slightly larger battery no one should have issues with it not lasting a full day.

So if you have forgotten already, here are the updated rumored specs of the BlackBerry R10;

• QWERTY keyboard
• 3.1-inch display, 720 x 720 resolution
• 5MP rear camera, front camera
• Support to shoot up to 2560 x 1920 resolution photos
• 2G of RAM
• 8G internal storage
• 2180 mAh non-removable Battery
• BlackBerry 10.1 OS

Unfortunately the stock price always takes a hit when we see one of these negative reports, but hopefully the more positive one from Peter Misek will help to bolster up the shares again.  In a recent Seeking Alpha article, Misek was quoted as stating ‘we are confident in our 2M+/month BB10 build plan estimate from our Asia trip a few weeks ago. We have heard of build plan cuts, but on the Blackberry 7 device side, which should help margins.”   We have seen numerous reports from retailers, especially in the UK, that Q10 sales are going as well or even better than what was seen for the Z10.

Now of course this is all rumor and conjecture until we hear some actual sales numbers from BlackBerry themselves, but the early reports on Q10 sales are definitely promising for the company.  We are expecting to see more BlackBerry 10 devices throughout the year, and the introduction of a more entry-level model will hopefully further push sales, as described by Misek.

Blackberry 7 cuts should help margins. Mid-range R10 ahead. We did find out two new pieces of data from our supply chain checks. Firstly, we believe Blackberry 7 builds have been reduced as BB10 devices cannibalize BB7 devices. We believe this is actually positive given Blackberry’s gross margins on these products are very poor. The other item was the R10 and the touch equivalent mid-range version of the Z10 seems to be prepping for production. We are now expecting mass production to start in the early summer. This should be another boost to August.

There still seems to be a large portion of people who are hoping BlackBerry doesn’t succeed with BlackBerry 10, however if Q10 and Z10 sales continue they way they have been we shouldn’t have to worry about that.  You can check out the full article at the link below.

In a recent article over at Seeking Alpha, contributor Jaberwock, believes that BlackBerry 10 will in fact win the third spot. Using sales curves Jaberwock has determined that once the Q10 is released in more countries around the world BlackBerry’s numbers will grow and surpass overall marketshare of Windows.

Now of course at the moment this is all speculation, and is built off of curves and analysis from Z10 sales around the world, it is still nice to see that the race between BlackBerry and Windows is so close. Hit up the source link below to check out the full article.

BlackBerry’s conceptual accessory is rather Double-O-7′ish in that you could wear a pair of glasses or a tie, a broach, or wireless headset that beams out an invisible IR light that will allow you to see your confidential information on your smartphone display. But when but look away, the IR light is moved away from the display and your confidential information is shown on the screen as one big mess of static to someone with peering eyes. All in all, it’s a nice peek at one of the next generation accessories and you could read all about it now.

It would seem that BlackBerry is taking a different route on the wearable tech road, rather than have a more or less standalone device they are looking at a complimentary one.  The idea of the display only working when looking at it with a specific accessory, also adds to the security of a BlackBerry device.

Concepts behind BlackBerry’s wearable computer accessory include displaying information on the display screen when a user is looking at the display screen, and dimming or turning off the display screen when the user is looking away from it. These concepts may be useful in advancing confidentiality, or may help conserve power in the portable electronic device, or may realize other advantages as well.

Making certain items of information viewable only by a particular user of the portable electronic device and not viewable by other users of the portable electronic device may satisfy security concerns.

While we are not expecting to see BlackBerry release anything in the immediate future, you can expect that they are working on these type wearable technologies.  Hopefully BlackBerry will continue to dedicate the majority of their time to the BlackBerry 10 platform before going too deep into this new market.  You can read more about the patent at the source link below.

To start Selfridges has an exclusive on the Q10 in the UK until Monday, and many of the people there buying were most likely folks looking to buy as many units as possible to export around the world.  Regardless of these facts if the rumors are true and Selfridges did sell 2000 units in 90 minutes that works out to 22.2 Q10′s being sold every minute.  There have even been reports that people were still waiting in line after they sold out waiting to see when the next stock shipment would arrive.

Hopefully we will see this kind of enthusiasm and sales when the Q10 makes its way to North America next week when it launches in Canada on May 1st.

We all know that BlackBerry will be launching a flagship device around the end of the year, this device is rumored to be called BlackBerry Aristo. BlackBerry Aristo phablet has recently been rumored to offer the following specs:

• 4.65-inch screen
• 1080×1920 screen resolution on a Super AMOLED
•  4GB RAM
• 3,000mAh battery

According to a source of mine the above specs are on point with the BlackBerry A10 that is currently in development. The A10/Aristo/Anisio are currently being designed to go up against the Samsung Galaxy Note 3. Let us know what you think about the rumored specs in the comments! While BlackBerry used to dominate the enterprise market, more and more companies are switching over to a BYOD policy and therefore are having to deal with security on iOS and Android, BES 10.1 should alleviate many concerns.  As Ronen puts it,

This will sort of be like Good and Touchdown on steroids with your work email, contacts, calendar, notes, tasks, and internal browser inside a secure container. Companies will also be able to push out business apps that can run inside this container though I am not sure if they will be native apps. On top of that the secure container and apps installed through it will have access to your corporate network without a VPN which is key for battery life. They will work through BlackBerry’s NOC data centers and will connect back to your BES 10 and mail servers that way like legacy BlackBerrys.

These types of moves are essential for BlackBerry to remain a strong force within the enterprise market.  Keeping companies on a BES even though they may have a lot of users moving away from BlackBerry will help keep revenue flowing into the company.

BES 10.1 is expected to be coming sometime in May, so these new secure workspaces within iOS and Android will be coming very shortly.

There is always another analyst that is given their opinion on what BlackBerry needs to do in order to remain a profitable company.  Whether it be selling more units than they have in years, or simply start to license their product out to other device manufacturers.  Well according to a contributor over at Seeking Alpha, BlackBerry will need to sell 3 million BlackBerry 10 devices in order to break even.

These numbers are all based on BlackBerry breaking even in Q1 FY14, which will see sales of the BlackBerry Z10 in a majority of the world –  including the US.  As you can see in the chart below, BlackBerry 7 devices are still shipping in higher volume that BlackBerry 10, however there is basically no margin on BB7 devices at this point.  This is why BlackBerry needs to have strong sales on the new BlackBerry 10 devices in order to break even in Q1.

With the BlackBerry Q10 finally about to hit the market we are sure that there will be an upswing in sales for that device.  We are guessing that the Q10 will see approximately  the same success that the Z10 did at launch, which will mean that BlackBerry may actually only need to sell/ship approx. 2 million Z10′s in Q1.

We reported yesterday about a rumor concerning Google looking to acquire WhatsApp for somewhere in the $1 billion range.  Well WhatsApp has now spoken up and are denying these rumors, stating that they are not in talks with the search giant.

Neeraj Arora, WhatsApp’s business development head, told AllThingsD that they were not holding sales talks with Google and then did not comment any further. While the merger would have been interesting for both companies, I am not really surprised to hear that this one was in fact only a rumor.
