With BlackBerry Live set to kick off on Tuesday, we will be flying into Orlando tomorrow to get all set up to bring you the most update BlackBerry coverage. Some Tips And Tricks For Users Of BlackBerry Balance

Blackberry Balance is a new feature for BlackBerry 10. Not all users will know the inner workings of it. The purpose of BlackBerry Balance is to make the transition from work phone to personal phone much easier. The following tips and tricks should give you more insight.

Keep your personas separate - Color code your calendar appointments to better plan your day and quickly triage what’s work and what’s personal. For example, by using BlackBerry Groups, family members can integrate calendars to ensure everyone is constantly up to date with the latest schedules of events. With a quick swipe of the finger, users can easily hide these events to manage work appointments. In the Calendar application, swipe down from the top bezel to reveal the menu items. Select Manage to show/hide calendars and Settings to customize colors.

Protect your personal moments – The BlackBerry Z10 features an 8 megapixel camera for sharp photos, and the impressive Time Shift feature that allows you to go back in time to capture the perfect shot, making the Z10 ideal for photographing friends and family. By saving photos to your Personal profile, you can prevent private family images from being migrated onto corporate servers.

Easily access your important documents - To easily access corporate documents on your business profile, take advantage of behind-the firewall capabilities and have your IT department grant you access to network file shares. Download the free BlackBerry Work Drives app, to remotely access, edit and manage content located on enterprise network drives.

Power down what/when you want – Let BlackBerry Balance help you achieve balance! Pick a time of day and lock your work profile to eliminate the urge to check work email and other info. From the Home Screen, users should swipe down from the top to reveal the attached menu, then simply click the Balance icon on the left side to lock the Work space.

Review: Otterbox Defender Case for the BlackBerry Z10

Mobile LinkToday we are here to take a look at the Built for BlackBerry, Otterbox Defender case for the BlackBerry Z10. Over the years I have used many different types of cases from cheap plastic snap ons to high end heavy duty cases like the Defender. I am one of those people that have to find just the right case to be happy. My search for the best case for the BlackBerry Z10 includes the Otterbox Defender. In the above video you will see a comprehensive look at the case itself.

The Otterbox Defender case for the BlackBerry Z10 offers two layers of protection against drops, bumps and shocks, it DOES NOT stop water from getting in to your device. The two layers of protection are as follows an outer silicone case that covers the primary layer of protection that is made of a polycarbonate plastic. The polycarbonate plastic also includes a built in screen protector that helps keep dirt and smudges off the display.

Once the BlackBerry Z10 is placed securely in the polycarbonate inner case you would then install the silicone outer case over it. The outer silicone case offers even more protection for the device. It covers all of the ports (3.5mm headphone jack, charging port and HDMI port) with little silicone flaps. This helps with keeping dust and dirt out of the case while it is being used.

The weight and dimensions of the case are as follows:

Weight: 4.9 oz / 140.6 g
Dimensions (with holster): 5.6 in x 3.20 in x 1.50 in / 142.20 mm x 82.30 mm x 38.10 mm
Dimensions (without holster): 5.5 in x 3.0 in x 0.7 in / 139.70 mm x 76.20 mm x 17.8 mm

The holster that comes included with the Otterbox Defender case is a great addition, however as you can see in the video the swivel belt clip on the holster is a bit loose. Now that being said it could just be my holster. The holster holds the Z10 securely while on the move. The belt clip acts as a built in stand for view the device on a desktop (which is nice). The swivel belt clip offers multi positioning for the device. You can have the device screen facing inward to protect it or outward for easy viewing.

All in all the Otterbox Defender case for the BlackBerry Z10 offers maximum protection from just about anything except water… If you are looking for a superior case that is carrying the Built for BlackBerry brand, Otterbox Defender case is for you. Please understand the Defender does add a bit of thickness to the Z10 whether in or out of the holster. This case will keep you protected in the long haul.

The Otterbox Defender case retails for $49.95 from Otterbox directly, we picked ours up on eBay for only $35.

Importing Outlook contacts and calendar appointments using BlackBerry Link 1.0.1 for Windows

Late yesterday BlackBerry started rolling out a BlackBerry Link for PC update to v1.0.1.11, this update added the ability to import Outlook contacts and calendar appointments. The issue with this update was there were no instructions or guide on how to preform the import using the BlackBerry Link update. Ty from the Inside BlackBerry Help Blog was able to put together a great how-to on importing Outlook contacts and calendar appointments.

Vivek Bhardwaj shows off a typing shortcut on the physical qwerty keyboard BlackBerry Q10 device at BlackBerry Jam Europe. A feature he’s calling Type and Go allows you to simply start typing the action you’d like to take. For instance you can type “email” and a contact name to start composing a message to that individual.

Here we are in December already… Where did the time go??? We here at NerdBerry want to celebrate the holidays in a HUGE way! Starting today and ending on December 23 we are going to be running a Holiday Photo Contest from RIM and NerdBerry!!! We have TWO BlackBerry prize packs up for grabs. The two prize packs consist of one T-Mobile Branded BlackBerry Bold 9900 and one 32GB BlackBerry PlayBook!! We have put a lot of thought in to this contest and we have come up with the Holiday Photo Contest!

How do you enter? Of course you MUST do the regular stuff such as – “Like” our Facebook page, Follow us on Twiter, Subscribe to our YouTube Channel and leave a comment letting us know the top three have been completed…

Because this is such a huge contest we are going to throw in one more thing, don’t fret it is not hard. Respect the Classics – Pokemon and other GameBoy games at home on your BlackBerry!

BlackBerry OS may be Java based, but who ever said Java was dead? Even now as RIM pushes HTML5 as the future of web apps, there is a common glue and that’s java-script. Even Android uses a customized version of JAVA and Objective C/C++. With that said take your BBOS back to its roots with MeBoy. MeBoy is a Gameboy/Gameboy Color emulator for mobile phones that support mobile java (J2ME). MeBoy is like many other emulators out there where you load up ROMs and get games on your cellular device! MeBoy is a great little app because it allows you to save games even if the game doesn’t necessarily allow that functionality. You can even share your games via Bluetooth for things like backing up, sharing game states, and wirelessly syncing ROMS from your computer to your phone.

There is a big list on arktos.se that talks about compatible devices you can find that list here. The list hasn’t been updated in some time but JAVA has truly withstood the test of time. My 9900 plays MeBoy just fine, and as devices get better and better so will the playback! Bringing this post round makes me think about QNX and BlackBerry’s commitment to creating a platform for the future. Java served them well even now on our BBOS7 devices. Java still going strong. Respect the classics, BlackBerry is no different, we must always remember which fruit really started the cellular craze.

Check out this awesome custom car mount for the 4G/LTE PlayBook by @MarkPPG

This is noting cooler in my books than crazy custom mounts for tablets in cars. In the past we have mainly seen shops do custom mounts for iPads in the dash, but this time around we have one for the 4G/LTE PlayBook (of course the WiFi version would fit as well). This video comes courtesy of @MarkPPG from AllAboutMyBB.com, and it shows off his passion for both BlackBerry and cars.

The inspiration for the mount came from the QNX Jeep video, and it definitely makes me want to break out the tools and do a few alterations to my own vehicle.
