GDocs application for BlackBerry has been updated in App World to version 1.4. There is no change log available at this time. If you use Google Docs for school, work or maybe just sharing lists between friends or family members Google Docs is a great resource and you now have a free way to manage it all on your BlackBerry. There are three versions of this app within App World, the free one a Pro version and a Premium version. All three of them seem to do the same thing, and we recommend that you just go with the Free one for the time being. Hit the break for a full description and the download link.

Spotify for BlackBerry Updated to v0.5.1.2

You can clear App Worlds cache by pressing and holding ALT then type +RST, doing this should show the update. easyDial Touchscreen Dialing for the BlackBerry Bold 9900/9930

I don’t know about you, but this application is simple awesome! I will say I am of of the luck one to have used a Torch 9810 with the touchscreen dialing and I have always wanted that feature on my BlackBerry Bold 9900. Up until now touchscreen dialing has not been possible, enter easyDial.

easyDial is an app that utilizes the BlackBerry Bold’s touch screen to emulate a dial pad for phone calls. This app also make it easier to make phone calls as the buttons are larger and the respective lettering without holding down ‘alt’ and dialing (for when you have to dial a phone number which includes letters). The numbers typed in will display in North American-style dialing ie. (XXX) XXX-XXXX but will still make calls if the numbers are from a different region.

This application is only available for BlackBerry Bold 99xx series.

NFC Shortcuts for BlackBerry has been updated in App World to version 1.5. NFC Shortcuts (aka NFCLauncher) is the first NFC app for BlackBerry that allows you to launch apps or shortcuts conveniently by tapping your BlackBerry® to a NFC tag. hit the break to find out what’s new.

What’s new in version 1.5?

Added a wizard screen to help setup what to launch when an NFC tag is tapped.

For example when you get home, you can just tap a NFC tag at the entrance door and your BlackBerry® will turn off the cellular radio, turn on WiFi (home network), turn off Bluetooth (used for handsfree in the car), and even send an SMS to your family members (not at home) notifying them that you are home (This example requires ShortcutMe app that has macro feature).

Or you can tap a tag on your nightstand to set the BlackBerry® into bedside mode. Tap it again in the morning to take the device out of bedside mode.

Any NFC tag that BlackBerry OS can read is supported by this application but the best tags are none programmed Mifare Ultralight tags that are both cheap and can be found in different shapes and forms.

QR Scanner for PlayBook Updated to v1.3

QR Scanner for the BlackBerry PlayBook has been updated to v1.3 in App World. What does QR Scanner for PlayBook do? Well it lets you scan and generate Quick Response (QR) codes without the need of a network connection.

Features:

For scanning the picture of the code is simply captured with the camera. The information will be decoded and displayed on the screen. The display is formatted according to the content type (text, url, sms, address ..). Buttons allow to open web links and copy the content into the clipboard.
For future reference the application will keep a list of the last 20 codes that where scanned. A slide down menu on the top of the screen offers setting options to clear the history, turn off the sound and switch the camera.
This app also allows you to create your own QR codes. Depending on the content type you simply fill in a form with the information you want to store in the code (text, url, email, contact ..). The code will then be displayed and can be saved as a picture.
Problems:
After getting a lot of bad ratings I have to make clear that the camera of the PlayBook™ is very good but has unfortunately strong limitations when it comes to small codes and in low light condition.
Please use the feedback or contact me directly if you encounter a problem or if you have suggestions to improve the application.

I thank all the users who have supported me with their feedback and who encouraged me to keep developing this application! Furthermore I have to say that everything is based on the awesome zebra crossing project which allows the decoding and creation of QR codes on the device without network interaction.
