BlackBerry BES 10 was officially released today, and in conjunction with that release the Mobile Fusion apps in both the Google Play Store and the iOS App Store were renamed. If you remember correctly the Mobile Fusion Client apps were built to allow users to use their personal devices remotely with the BlackBerry Enterprise Servers.

it does not appear that there is actually anything new in the apps, rather that RIM decided to rename them to place them in line with the branding of BlackBerry 10. You can download the respective client apps from the links below.

With the release of the all new BlackBerry 10 Enterprise Server coming with the release of the new BlackBerry 10 smartphones, current free BES Express licenses may not carry over. Small business owners that use the BlackBerry Enterprise Server service, BlackBerry Enterprise Server Express 5 maybe the final free version.

The free BES Express 5 servers allows any configuration to support up to 2,000 users per server, but with the new changes to BlackBerry 10 the free licenses may go away.

When a legacy BlackBerry 7.1 or older version is retired and replaced with a BlackBerry 10 device, before there was not license cost to connect to Express, there will be charge to connect the new device to BES 10.

With the initial launch of BlackBerry Enterprise Service 10, BES 5+ will require its own server, while BlackBerry Device Service and Universal Device Service can reside on separate servers or be combined on the same physical or virtual server. Should you opt to work with virtual servers, RIM will fully support this type of deployment. Today, BlackBerry Mobile Fusion operates in a similar fashion, with BES 5+ requiring one server, and both BDS and UDS able to be deployed on a single server or on separate servers.

Research in Motion clarified that it will be necessary to install separate versions of BES: a version of BES 5 for BlackBerry 7.1 and older devices that are current available, and a version of BES 10 for the newer, yet to be released BlackBerry 10 devices.

The roadmap for BES 10 includes an upgrade currently scheduled for BlackBerry World in May 2013. This upgrade will consolidate BDS and UDS into a single component, and will allow for BlackBerry Enterprise Service 10 and existing BlackBerry Enterprise Servers (BES 5.0.3+) to run on the same physical server; both seamlessly managed using a single fully featured management console. Additionally, with BES 10 there will no longer be a requirement to have the server connected to the same Local Area Network as the mail server. These developments will centralize mobility management into a single point and provide flexibility, convenience, and added functionality.

Stay tuned for further details on pricing, the path forward from a current BES 5 deployment, and details on IT policies and management configurations. BlackBerry Enterprise Service 10 will launch with the first BlackBerry 10 devices in early 2013.

With a possible payment for use of BES 10 small businesses may be shunned away from BlackBerry, lets hope RIM adopt a better way of implementing BES 10

Update enhances functionality for iOS devices and BlackBerry PlayBook

Research In Motion (RIM) (NASDAQ: RIMM; TSX: RIM) today released a free update of BlackBerry® Mobile Fusion, the company’s mobile device management (MDM) solution. With the release of Service Pack 1, RIM is also expanding availability of BlackBerry Mobile Fusion to an additional 37 countries for a total of 81 countries.

BlackBerry Mobile Fusion Service Pack 1 will provide additional features for both iOS based devices and BlackBerry® PlayBook™ tablets. Organizations managing iOS devices will see enhancements in the configuration of Wi-Fi®, VPN and ActiveSync service across devices, and the ability to manage the distribution of apps. Organizations managing BlackBerry PlayBook tablets will be able to benefit from features including Over The Air enrollment and configuration of devices, full device encryption and certificate-based authentication with Microsoft® Exchange. The new features in BlackBerry Mobile Fusion for the BlackBerry PlayBook will be accessible with a pending update of the PlayBook OS.

Jeff Holleran, Senior Director, Enterprise Product Management at RIM said, “Organizations are increasingly looking for a trusted partner to help them manage the proliferation of both corporate provided and employee provided or BYOD mobile devices. While BlackBerry Mobile Fusion will allow customers to manage BlackBerry PlayBook tablets as well as iOS and Android devices today, it will also prepare customers for a simple and straightforward upgrade to BlackBerry Enterprise Service 10, when it launches together with the first of our new BlackBerry 10 smartphones.

“BlackBerry Mobile Fusion offers a complete end-to-end mobile device management solution, which further extends our leadership in delivering unrivalled enterprise-grade mobility solutions. We have listened to feedback from our customers about how we could help them be even more effective and have prioritized the development of the new features and functionally with this update.”

Blackberry Mobile Fusion was just launched in Singapore yesterday. Read on for the Press Release.

Press Release

(Singapore, 20 July 2012) BlackBerry® Mobile Fusion, RIM’s next-generation mobile device management (MDM) solution is now available for enterprise customers in Singapore. Continue reading for more on RIM Singapore’s Official Announcement.

Built on the foundation that has established BlackBerry® Enterprise Server as the gold standard for government and businesses, BlackBerry Mobile Fusion delivers a cost-efficient, secure, reliable and scalable solution that consolidates the management of smartphones and tablets running BlackBerry® OS (including support for BlackBerry PlayBook™ and future BlackBerry® 10 devices) as well as Android™ and iOS®*, and provides a single, unified, web-based console for easily managing all devices.

“For businesses and government, managing a mix of mobile devices on any scale is chaotic. Organizations face pressure to allow employees to bring their own devices into the workplace, and they are looking to RIM as the global leader in the enterprise mobility space to solve that problem,” said Charles Dufourcq, Director for Singapore at Research In Motion. “BlackBerry Mobile Fusion allows organizations to manage a mixed environment of devices in the most secure, simple, and cost efficient manner possible.

It also means that businesses and government do not have to move to the lowest common denominator on security for all the devices they need to manage.”

BlackBerry Mobile Fusion integrates the market-leading features and security architecture of BlackBerry Enterprise Server (version 5.0.3), providing advanced IT management and controls, a single outbound security connection (256-bit AES encrypted “BlackBerry VPN”), enforceable IT policies, support for BlackBerry® Balance technology, and over-the-air app and software installation capabilities for the management of BlackBerry smartphones and PlayBook tablets (as well as future BlackBerry 10 devices).

For the wide range of government workers around the world and approximately 90 percent of Fortune 500 companies using BlackBerry smartphones today, BlackBerry Mobile Fusion allows them to leverage their current end-to-end BlackBerry security infrastructure and have flexible options for individually liable devices while keeping costs low.

In addition to providing unmatched functionality for BlackBerry devices, BlackBerry Mobile Fusion also provides comprehensive mobile device management capabilities for iOS and Android devices including:

Support for multiple devices per user
Application and software management
Connectivity management (Wi-Fi®, VPN, certificates)
Centralized, easy to use, unified web-based console
Security and policy definition and management
Asset management
Configuration management
Security and protection for lost or stolen devices (remote lock, wipe)
User- and group-based administration
High scalability

BlackBerry Mobile Fusion software is available as a free download and is priced by the number of devices being managed. Client access licenses (CALs) are available for purchase from are available for purchase from local Wireless Operators or RIM System Integrators. In addition, RIM is offering a 60 day free trial, so customers can deploy apilot before purchasing a single CAL. The 60 day free trial is available at BlackBerry Singapore website.

The industry today:

The BYOD trend is building up in Asia Pacific after gaining traction in the US and European markets.

“The consumerisation of IT is significantly changing how organisations approach their mobility and devicestrategies,” said Tim Dillon, Associate Vice President of Asia Pacific End User & Mobility Research at IDC. “One consequence of this – companies are increasingly faced with a multi-OS, multi-device environments. IDC’s research in Asia-Pacific also indicates that approximately 60% of organisations surveyed have plans in the next 12 months to move to an employee-bought phone and cease providing corporate phones directly for the majority of employees. With tablets, the percentage of organisations planning to enable their employees to bring their own device is approximately 70%.”

“In this context, overwhelmingly, almost 60% of surveyed organisations cited employee productivity as the primary reason for allowing employees to bring their own devices to work.” Tim added. “Not surprisingly with the use of employee-purchased devices growing, organisations have concerns in supporting their employees in this changing environment. The top issues? Managing personal usage on devices, particularly gaining greater visibility of usage costs and security.”

* iOS and Android devices require the Mobile Fusion Client app to enable the BlackBerry Mobile Fusion management services, which is available as a free download for iOS and Android devices from their respective app stores. Device security, manageability and controls vary according to the inherent capabilities of the individual device operating systems.

The announcement of BlackBerry Mobile Fusion meant that many enterprise customers would be able to offer their employees a little more choice when it came to picking a device. This is especially important as the BYOD (Bring Your Own Device) movement as really started to gain a foothold in the enterprise market. Martha Stewart Living is a company that is dedicated to BlackBerry, but they realize that their products need to be suited for consumer based devices.

The video below demonstrates how Mobile Fusion can be incorporated into a BES based business to allow multiple platforms to be used, while still keeping BlackBerry devices for high level security. The advent of BlackBerry Mobile Fusion will hopefully help more companies stay with RIM and BlackBerry and simply offer some choice to certain employees when it comes to what device they want to use.

BlackBerry® Mobile Fusion, RIM’s next-generation mobile device management (MDM) solution is now available for enterprise customers in the Philippines.

Organizations face pressure to allow employees to bring their own devices into the workplace, and they are looking to RIM as the global leader in the enterprise mobility space to solve that problem,” said Alan Panezic, Vice President, Enterprise Product Management and Marketing at Research In Motion.

Client access licenses (CALs) are available for purchase from Globe Telecom, Smart Communications, and Sun Cellular. In addition, RIM is offering a 60 day free trial, so customers can deploy a pilot before purchasing a single CAL.

The 60 day free trial is available at ph.blackberry.com/mobilefusion

* iOS and Android devices require the Mobile Fusion Client app to enable the BlackBerry Mobile Fusion management services, which is available as a free download for iOS and Android devices from their respective app stores. Device security, manageability and controls vary according to the inherent capabilities of the individual device operating systems.
