AT&T Says Pre Loaded Video Chat Apps Work On Their Cellular Network

AT&T released a statement today saying that you are able to use pre loaded video chat apps on your phone, on their network. This instead of the standard “wifi only” video chats that we are used to. By the end of this year, all video chat apps should work on their network too. BlackBerry is among the group of manufacturers who have enabled this featured to be used already. After all, one of their biggest draws is BBM Video Chat.

The statement is below, which also details who has access to use the video chat as not everyone’s plan would cover it.

For video chat apps that come pre-loaded on devices, we currently give all OS and device makers the ability for those apps to work over cellular for our customers who are on Mobile Share or Tiered plans. Apple, Samsung and Blackberry have chosen to enable this for their pre-loaded video chat apps. And by mid-June, we’ll have enabled those apps over cellular for our unlimited plan customers who have LTE devices from those three manufacturers.

Throughout the second half of this year, we plan to enable pre-loaded video chat apps over cellular for all our customers, regardless of data plan or device; that work is expected to be complete by yearend.

Today, all of our customers can use any mobile video chat app that they download from the Internet, such as Skype.

So those with a Z10 and on AT&T and the right plan should be able to use it.

Cell C Announces BlackBerry Z10, Starts Pre Orders

South African mobile provider Cell C has announced the BlackBerry Z10. The phone will be available for purchase in their stores starting on March 1st. In the meantime the Z10 is ready for pre order over at the Cell C website. This announcement comes not long after Vodacom officially started selling the Z10. Cell C is offering free BBM for life with purchase, with a few conditions.

Plan information:

Cell C Prepaid, Top Up and Postpaid customers who have a BlackBerry Z10 smartphone can select from three Cell C Service Plans to complement their current chosen subscription – The Lite Plan, The Essential Plan and The Premium Plan.

Customers who subscribe to any one of the Cell C Service Plans for the BlackBerry Z10 will receive unlimited BBM (BlackBerry Messenger)*for life (including texting and file sharing – photos, video clips and voice notes).

BBM Chat is free over WiFi and will be charged as part of the data bundle if over the Cell C network. New BBM features (voice calling (free over WiFi), video calling and screen sharing) are not part of the unlimited BBM offer.

Rogers getting ready to offer discounts for month-to-month customers that bring their own device

One of the main problems I have with Canadian carriers is that they offer no discounts on monthly plans if you bring your own device. Sure you avoid signing a 3 year contract, but your monthly bill is the same as those people who signed up with a 100% subsidized device. Luckily Rogers is getting ready to join the ranks of Bell and TELUS in offering customers a break on month-to-month plans.

The estimated savings you may see if you bring your own device to a month-to-month plan is approx. 10%. Now over a year that 10% per month will add up to a significant savings. Rogers is also looking into opening up the “Hand Me Down” program, in which you can give your old Rogers device to someone and have a $5 or $10 credit applied to your account when they open a new line. The program currently only applies to Rogers branded devices, however Rogers is going to open up the program and make it available to any device from any network.

It is about time that Canadian carriers started to re-tool their policies on non-contract plans. Hopefully in time we will start to see significant savings for those of us that like to buy our devices outright opposed to signing new contracts.

T-Mobile is Ending Subsidies in 2013

With BlackBerry 10 devices to be announce within the next coming month carriers will be getting BB10 love. However T-Mobile’s CEO John Legere announced today that it will be ending phone subsidies in the year 2013! So if your are looking to getting the new BlackBerry 10 smartphones, note that you will be paying full price for the device, and not those typical $200 price discount that you normally get. Before you completely through your hands up and get ready to change carriers. T-Mobile will be offering the phones for a low as $100!

Then allowing you to finance the phone for the life of contract or 20 months or so. This could mean a better or worst deal for you when you plan to upgrade and or become a new T-Mobile customer.

T-Mobile Already currently offers is new “Value Plans” that offer savings if you buy your phone outright, or just used a preexisting device. In which T-Mobile doesn’t seem too concern about considering that 80 percent of its activations last quarter were for those Value Plans.

It will be interesting to see the move and how T-Mobile will be offering the new BlackBerry 10 devices with the changes to their subsidy plan. Remember Verizon changed its data plans but used subsidy to force its customers onto new data plans.

Rogers revamps smartphone plans to include unlimited voice and text – data still costs a pretty penny

There is no denying the fact that Canadians usually get the short end of the stick when it comes to smartphone plans. Rogers is now revamping their plans to move away from voice and text restricted plans to unlimited ones.

The new plans will start at $55 for 1000 minutes of calls with unlimited messaging however only 200 MB of data. On the top end of the scale it will cost you $95 for unlimited calls and messaging with 5GB of data. The higher end plans also are “share-ready”‘if you happen to want to use a couple of devices on the same plan.

Now while this is a move in the right direction, these prices are still based on customers signing up for a 3 year contract, which is absolutely absurd in this day and age. Hopefully the next big move amongst Canadian carriers will be the reduction to 2 year plans receiving the most subsidies.

As expected Bell and TELUS are also coming out with almost identical plan options in the next few days. This is something that isn’t new to anyone familiar with the carrier market in Canada.

MTN Rwanda Reduces Blackberry Fees By A Whopping 40%

Good news for MTN Rwanda subscribers, they have dropped their Blackberry fees by 40%. That is quite a big discount!

MTN Rwanda, the largest telecom operator with 3.2 million subscribers in Rwanda, announces today a reduction of all BlackBerry fees by 40 percent.

“We attributed this reduction to our continued support of Rwanda Government’s policies to create and promote mainstream technology in Vision 2020, which policies by purpose, rank among the most ambitious in Africa,” MTN says in a statement. “We also attribute this to our support of government’s ambitious plan to create Rwanda as a major regional ICT hub.”

MTN Rwanda recognizes the fact that all these ambitious plans can only be fruitful if all Rwandans have affordable, access to ICTs. It is against this background that the operator announced reduction of fees on BlackBerry service by 40 percent effective Monday, October 22, 2012.

“We believe that the smartphone has today proved to be a tremendous technological advancement and we believe their services should be more affordable to all Rwandans.”

BlackBerry packages have been reduced as following:

BIS (BlackBerry Internet Services) monthly price is reduced from Rwf20,000 to Rwf12,000 and the new activation code will be *347*12,000#.

BIS weekly price is reduced from Rwf6,000 to Rwf4,000 and the new activation code will be *347*4,000#.

BES (BlackBerry Enterprise Services) monthly price is reduced from Rwf20,000 to Rwf12,000 and the new activation code will be*347*12,000#.

BES weekly price is reduced from Rwf6,000 to 4,000Rwf and the new activation code will be *347*4,000#.

BIS + BES monthly is reduced from Rwf25,000 to Rwf15,000 and the new activation code will be *347*15,000# while BIS (BlackBerry absolute) + BES weekly is reduced from Rwf7,000 to Rwf5,000 and the new activation code will be *347*5,000#.

With a coverage of 97.9 %, reaching a population of 97.3 (June 2012), MTN Rwanda’s mobile subscriber market share is 62% (August 2012). MTN Rwanda has over 6,000 subscribers on BlackBerry services.

MTC Namibia Launches New BlackBerry

MTC Namibia has release new BlackBerry plans that offer lower rates then before! There are currently two new Options on BlackBerry, BlackBerry Absolute and BlackBerry Complete. Both options have 7 days or 30 days validity periods. Customers can subscribe to more than one BB service at a time. If a customer already has the BB Complete 7 and purchases the BB Absolute 30 while still having 5 days remaining of the 7 days of the BB Complete 7, the new validity for the BB Absolute 30 will only start on the expiry date of the BB Complete.

NEW BLACKBERRY OPTIONS

The BlackBerry options available to Tango customers have changed.

From now on customers can purchase the BlackBerry services but remain in the Class of Service of their choice.

Migration to the BlackBerry Class of Services is no longer necessary. Customers can be on T49 and have additional BlackBerry services, provided they have a BlackBerry handset. The BlackBerry Class of Services will no longer be available to customers.

Free minutes or SMS are no longer included in the BlackBerry Services, but customers will benefit from the offers on the Class of Services that they are on. Eg. If they are on T49 then the T49 rules will apply, or if they are on Aweh, the Aweh rules will apply.

Customers can also move between two Class of Services but will still keep their BlackBerry services.

MTC has 2 new Options on BlackBerry, BlackBerry Absolute and BlackBerry Complete. Both options have 7 days or 30 days validity periods. Customers can subscribe to more than one BB service at a time. Vodafone Puts Out Exclusive Colors Of Blackberry Curve 9320
