If you’re on an applicable consumer data plan (enterprise plans are not supported at this time), you can download BlackBerry Protect and then log into the website where you can lock, locate or wipe your smartphone from wherever you are. You can also choose to have your crucial data backed up wirelessly and automatically, as often as you choose (daily, weekly, or monthly).

How it works:
If you are faced with danger all you have to do is press the convenience key and BeGuard will activate, hide and start acquiring your location using four Geo-Positioning methods. It will even find you indoors!

Once your position has been acquired is then transmitted to an emergency contact (previously chosen by you) via SMS or Email every two minutes, until the emergency is over. Your emergency contact will receive a link that it can be viewed in any browser or mobile phone that will display your position in a map.

All email notifications are done via our central service so there’s no record of such emails sent by your phone. Nobody will know BeGuard is running!

Built in protection:
Once you have declared an emergency, BeGuard protects itself! If an third party has access to your phone and tries to erase the application it would only be able to erase the interface module, but the module responsible of sending out the notifications will still be functioning!

Also, when someone tries to deactivate BeGuard, the application will ask for a password. Is the password is entered incorrectly, the app would behave as it has been entered correctly in order to give the impression that it has been deactivated when in truth it has not and your position is still being sent!

Blackberry Protect has been updated to v1.0.10.50 in Blackberry App World. And if your not sure Blackberry Protect allows you to backup the majority of the information on your device remotely and you can even wipe remotely as well, just in case you misplace you Berry and can’t find it.  However not being able to find your BlackBerry is something else that Protect looks to help you with, as once you have downloaded the app and signed in you can go to the website from a PC and log in and track down your Berry, and even make it emit a loud noise to help you find it.  All the backups can be set to happen in the background, either daily/weekly/monthly, whatever you feel is necessary.

Here is a quick look of Blackberry Protect v1.1 from OS 7. When you see the BlackBerry Protect icon on the home screen you will see right above the NFC icon. The Near Field Communication chip (NFC) is the  future of mobile payments. We cant wait to get our hands on a new OS 7 device.

Now it is important to remember that this will only work if you have a BIS account, so if your device was provided by your employer or has a BES setup on it, you will most likely not be able to use BlackBerry Protect.  If you don’t have Protect setup yet, make sure you head over to BlackBerry AppWorld to download.
