Yellow Media Announces Appointment of Don Morrison to Board of Directors, Releases Proxy Circular

MONTREAL, QUEBEC–(Marketwired – April 4, 2013) - Don Morrison, former Chief Operating Officer of Research in Motion (now BlackBerry) has been appointed to the Board of Directors of Yellow Media Limited (TSX:Y), as disclosed in the company’s proxy circular released today in connection with its annual meeting of shareholders to be held on May 7, 2013.

Under his tenure, RIM expanded to more than 175 countries around the world and fiscal year revenues grew from approximately $200 million to nearly $20 billion. Mr. Morrison retired from RIM in 2011.

“Don’s disciplined approach to operational excellence and the tradition of success he built over his career make him a strong addition to the Board of Directors of Yellow Media as we work with the management team to deliver the company’s digital transformation,” said Robert MacLellan, Chairman of the Board.

In the circular, Yellow Media also stated that Marc P. Tellier, who will be stepping down as President and Chief Executive Officer as announced by the company last week, will not stand for re-election to the company’s Board of Directors. Yellow Media also disclosed details of his separation agreement.

$4.3 million in separation pay based on Mr. Tellier’s employment agreement stipulating entitlement to 300% of the sum of both base salary ($825,000) and annual bonus for the preceding year ($606,000).
Annual pension of $455,086 beginning in 2033 when Mr. Tellier reaches 65 years of age.

“We applied the bonus commitments and employment terms of Mr. Tellier’s employment agreement which was struck in 2002,” stated Mr. MacLellan. “Our focus is now on continuing to move this company forward by executing the established strategy and prioritizing the naming of a new Chief Executive Officer to spearhead the transformation.”

A search committee of the Yellow Media Board of Directors was established to undertake the search for a new Chief Executive Officer. Mr. Tellier shall remain with Yellow Pages Group to assist with the transition process until his successor is named but will step down no later than August 15, 2013.

Mike Lazaridis Seeking to Make Real “Star Trek” Like Medical Device

Mike Lazaridis, founder of company BlackBerry, Research in Motion has opted in a stake of C$100 million ($97 million) into quantum technology that could likely be developed to create medical devices much like the medical tricorder from “Star Trek” Mike Lazaridis has started a fund called Quantum Valley Investments, that is focused on created quantum products with a three year time slot.

“What we’re excited about is these little gems coming out,” Lazaridis said in an interview in Toronto. “The medical tricorder would be astounding, the whole idea of blood tests, MRIs – imagine if you could do that with a single device. That may be possible and possible only because of the sensitivity, selectivity and resolution we can get from quantum sensors made with these quantum breakthroughs.”

He has donated $100 million to the Mike & Ophelia Lazaridis Quantum-Nano Centre in Waterloo, Ontario, the approach of this new centre will recreate the conditions that made AT&T Inc.’s Bell Labs a center of technological innovation what it was back in the 1960s to be the new groundwork for the success of Silicon Valley.

The new research center is designed to produce breakthroughs in the science and technology of things approaching the size of an atom. It’s “absolutely” going to be the Bell Labs of the 21st century, Lazaridis said

Mike said that he is now devoting most of his time to help get the Quantum-Nano Centre off the ground and to form a cluster of cutting-edge research with the decade-old Institute for Quantum Computing and Perimeter Institute for Theoretical Physics, both founded with a total of more than $250 million of his own money and additional funds he helped raise.

The facilities will be enough to lure the brightest minds in the field to Canada, Lazaridis said.

Mike Lazaridis also commented on the new BlackBerry computing system in saying that “People that have used it for a while really start to appreciate it — they start to see its real potential” he said. “It’s a very powerful operating platform.”

RIM on the Rise, as Thorsten Heins Reins Year One!

This shouldn’t come to any surprise but RIM has gained 11% in share price in a one year total under the reigns of Thorsten Heins. On the Toronto Stock Exchange (TSE:RIM) price close to $16 closing today at $17.41 gives RIM a 11% turnaround.Since Heins took over RIM one year to the date, January 21, RIM’s markets has had its downward spiral, but it seem that Heins has gotten RIM “in Motion” once again. This shouldn’t come as a surprise as Mr. Thorsten Heins was just awarded, . And with BlackBerry 10 launch set to take off in only 9 short days we can only expect to price to grow.

Being a stock holder of Research In Motion Ltd (NASDAQ: RIMM) I pay particular attention to the stock rating and price, especially with the release of BlackBerry 10 just around the bend on January 30! What is astonishing however is the stock has doubled and jumped up to $15.04 and closing just under.

InterDigital and Research In Motion Extend Patent License and Include 4G
