#DingleBerry Root to Be Updated to v4.0.0 – Allows Root On OS 2.0.0.7111 and 2.0.0.7971!!

With all of this PlayBook 2.0 update information flying around the net, I thought I would check in on the DingleBerry crew! I went to DingleBerry.it website and it still shows v3.3.3 as the latest version. That being said I clicked on the release notes and wham!! It looks like @Cmwdotme is hard at work on version 4.0.0! Hit the break for more!

As you can see from the release notes version 4.0.0 is said to includethe following!

 

  • Improved USB Host script to cater for when USB folder is already created.
  • Improved unified login to cope with when BDM has spammed.
  • Allows root on any future firmware including 2.0.0.7111 and 2.0.0.7971.
  • Allows loading of custom firmware and true permanent modification of /base.

We are not sure at this time if and when v4.0.0 will be released but we cant wait to get our PlayBook’s rooted! It looks like we maybe able to have out cake and eat it too!

    Unfortunately, the version 4.0 of dingleberry has been cancelled, but the source code is available for download if anyone want to work on it. This is a sad day, i was really glad at the idea to be able to use USB key directly on my PB.

    The fact it was canceled was a mistake. It was said just a day or 2 ago that it is only on the back burner for now. It is still in the works. It will probably be released about the same time that the next update for OS 2.1 comes out. Effectively screwing many people because they had to update b4 its release. This happens more often than non on the PS3 scene. This is why I suggest everyone turn off your wifi on the playbook the night before the next update. Save yourself the drama and hope for the best. Although I am not clear on whether or not the playbook does auto updates or not.
