Nikkei: BlackBerry 10 Devices Won’t Be Heading To Japan

It seems that BlackBerry 10 devices won’t be landing in Japan anytime soon.  According to a report from the Nikkei, BlackBerry has decided that the cost to bring BlackBerry 10 devices to Japan are not worth it.  This should come as no surprise since BlackBerry has dropped down to 0.3% of market share in the country.

BlackBerry reached out to Engadget with the following response to the report.

We are in the process of launching BlackBerry 10 globally in key markets and we are seeing positive demand for the BlackBerry Z10 in countries where it has already launched. Japan is not a major market for BlackBerry and we have no plans to launch BlackBerry 10 devices there at this time. However, we will continue to support BlackBerry customers in Japan.

While am sure there are some people who are a little upset that the BlackBerry Z10 won’t be coming to Japan, I am glad to see that BlackBerry is being fiscally responsible during the global launch of their new platform.
